What’s the best cheap streaming service

I have Roku and YouTube TV. I barely ever watch anything on YouTube TV. The occasional sports and a few news shows. At this point I feel like I’m just wasting money. All the other big ones like sling and Hulu and fubu all cost around 50-60 bucks.

There has to be a couple apps I could download that handles those. I generally only watch late night Fox News shows occasionally early in the morning (saved)

Roku has endless apps. What say you?

re: What’s the best cheap streaming service
There are few ad-supported services that are free, like Pluto TV.

Peacock’s (NBC’s streaming service) lowest tier is a free, ad-based tier. But you get shows like House, Columbo, and Rockford Files, it’s a helluva deal.

Edit: If you want live TV like cable news, you’ll always be paying a premium for that. Since I stopped watching cable news altogether (I think 2014 was the year), except on election nights, my enjoyment of life and my TV bill has been much better.

(I mooch off of friends for live sports.)

Discovery+
and Disney bundle that includes ESPN+ and Hulu would cost you less than $20 per month.

Also VUDU and IMDB have lots of free movies and shows.

I’m trying to pin down one for sports, then probably Fox News related content. Fox News has their own app along with fox nation. Looking for sports only.

It may not be feasible. By the time you add 3-4 singular channels, you will be ending up paying the same thing.

Paramount+ for instance has every soccer match pretty much all over the world if you are into that. That’s great for 5 bucks

AMC + is only $6.99.

Has a lot of great TV shows, documentaries, and hundreds of really good movies. Plus they add new content often and get all the IMC stuff like Portlandia, Documentary Now, and Sundance shows and movies.

Sling is $35. Between that and Pluto I can almost always find something.

Speaking of pricing, Netflix just announced a new round of price hikes. Here's a handy table showing the history of price hikes:

Tubi and Plutotv are free and have live news channels. Newsmax, blaze, and others. Not sure about fox news on it.

re: What’s the best cheap streaming service
I am actually going through a few internet providers and there are deals where they will cut 10 bucks off your YTTV service.

I also have AT&T cell service. I get HBO max for free for signing up with them.

I would log in to your internet service site and check out if there are deals you can take advantage of

I’m actually going to start opening the mail from them. I switched to Xfinity from Frontier and I get double the download speed (100) for half the price. It’s promotional for a year or two. I just check their sit and that same package is 84 dollars. I pay 40 bucks now.

I’m sure some really cheap internet services are out there.

What tigerfan84 said is what you are looking for.

quote:

Discovery+ and Disney bundle that includes ESPN+ and Hulu would cost you less than $20 per month.

Expect to pay a premium for any service that includes ESPN. Disney will pull ESPN from other streaming services as their current contracts run out, like they did with YouTube/Google. They got them to pay more. I'm assuming the increase will be passed on to the YouTube TV subscribers.

quote:

All Disney-owned content, including ABC and ESPN, went dark on YouTube TV late Friday after a breakdown in distribution negotiations between Disney and Google. On Sunday, YouTube TV said it was flipping the lights back on.

The financial dispute between the media giants over carriage fees led to the first major blackout for Google-owned YouTube TV, which has more than 3 million subscribers and is one of the nation’s largest Internet pay-TV services. Disney and Google, whose parent company is Alphabet, had been unable to reach a new deal by 11:59 p.m. Eastern time Friday.

quote:

Content affected by the lapse included ABC-owned TV stations, ESPN networks and Disney channels. Freeform, the FX networks and National Geographic channels also had been removed. The next day, they announced a deal, with Disney Media saying it was “pleased” to have kept the disruption short. “We appreciate Google’s collaboration to reach fair terms that are consistent with the market,” Disney said in a statement.

I hardly watch sports anymore, but I do like having the option. That’s the thing. YTTV gives you options. I just haven’t used them in 3 years
