Might be spoilers.

Apologies if a dumb question but where can I find out what the galaxy and republic was like before the events of PM?

Also I thought only 2 Sith Lords could live at one time. You have Senator Palatine, Darth Maul and Count Doku right? Or was Doku just a henchman when Maul was apprentice.

How long was the Senator Palpatine a Sith Lord before he rose to power?

Try playing Knights of the Old Republic if you ever have the chance

that was the result of Christopher Lee regretting not taking the role of Moff Tarkin, and lucas wanting him to be involved.

Obiwan should have let go down the shaft to fight another day, haunted by what happened.

Maul should have kidnapped Anakin exposing him to the dark side and training him. Obiwan vows to recover him and avenge his master.

The rule of two is just there can only be two sith. Not only two dark side users. Maul after is defeat could not be considered Sith because he was no longer the apprentice of Sidious.

KOTOR will give you an idea is SW about 1000 years before the events of the OT. Most of the expanded universe focused on this and after ROTJ.

Palpating was a dark sided before going into politics. He was a privileged youth that hated his family.

I like it all except this, obi would never avenge anyone, he was the Jedi of Jedis. He did not avenge the love of his life after Maul killed her too. That is just not in his character.

he becomes that way for a reason. I mean..he did chop the arms and legs off of someone he's been close to for the past decade, and watched him burn.(that also could have been written better)

But you're right, so after vowing to recover Anakin from being used as a tool for evil,..and fighting the temptation of hate and revenge in doing so..that as the main story would have been more interesting than what we got imo.

Anakins mother not even recognizing him because of what hate has done (little foreshadowing ..with maybe a "you are not my son" line to mirror the "i am your father" and no one wanting to be related to him). Perhaps Padme still maybe being the only person who could ever reach him, makes their relationship make a little more sense. Her being his beacon of peace and comfort.

Obiwan and the Jedi winning back Anakin, only to ultimately let him down and fail him with everything..would have been a better driving force for Anakin's true embracment of the Dark side and personal extermination of the jedi

supposedly he studied at Berkeley under a Soros scholarship, where he began with the dark arts and learned how to infiltrate government

So Dooku used to be a Jedi and was a master for Qui-Gon Jinn and Rael Averross. He basically goes grey with the force, hates the ideals of the Senate, and leaves the Jedi Order. He goes back to his home planet and grows in his own power. I don't think he had dealings with Palpatine until after TPM when Qui-Gon dies. Technically (don't quote me on this) I think Palpatine kills Plagueis somewhere during TPM so I guess that is when he becomes a Sith Lord.

There are two sith lords, but the lords can have trainee apprentices that can get their shot at being one of the two.

Dookoo joined the Sith after Maul died though

Isn't that part of being an apprentice?

You're supposed to be both learning from and preparing to surpass your master as he uses your power to extend his. The secret apprentice is neither secret nor unexpected as it's part of the training.

Kinda like Knight to Master.

There was no rule of 2 at that time.

Dooku was Sith but he was never truly an apprentice either. Hence why Palpatine wanted Skywalker so bad.

Dooku came after Maul was defeated by Obi-Wan. The real "Rule of Two" breaking that MAY have occurred at the time of Phantom Menace was that there appears to have been a time when there was Darth Plagueis (Sidious' Master), Darth Sidious (Palpatine), and Darth Maul all at the same time. Sidious had taken on Maul as an apprentice before he killed Plagueis, technically violating the Rule of Two. Not sure if this is Canon or not, but Palpatine/Sidious apparently killed Plagueis immediately after Palpatine was elected Chancellor which would have been during The Phantom Menace.

Maul had his brother as an apprentice, dookoo had ventris. Gracious was sort of an apprentice too. But you can have only two sith lords. Two Darths, I guess. There are only two people named Darth at a time.
