Well, my kids are adults now. But for teenagers I'd say Stand By Me and The Sandlot were pretty close representations of parts of my childhood. Heck, even The Goonies got some stuff right.

But the "entertainment" that probably comes the closest to describing my childhood is the song Life is Just a Tire Swing by Jimmy Buffet.

Bad News Bears was very close to my little league experience

National Lampoons Vacation nailed it on the family trips

Yeah...that movie is before my time playing LL...but similar vibe...lackadaisical coaches, loafers on the team who didn't care, some who did care...one fat guy...a kid with glasses...one girl on the team (who was really good btw)...daisy pickers in right field - and mostly players eating hot-dogs on the bench and talking about arcade games while bitching at the coach as he cussed us out.

Can you imagine a Little League coach using profanity to cuss out kids these days?

We had one coach who finally got reprimanded for saying the F-word constantly half the season when we struck out and yelling at us with profanity.

Yup to all of that, and we never had a girl on the team, but he called us girls, as he cussed us and made us run, haha!

I think it was 1986 and the girl on our team struck out...and he yelled at her..."what the frick is a matter with you...(but he really said the real word)...and that was when the parents finally said..."uh, this guy is a jerk, he yelled at a girl." Even though he yelled at us all the time. It took a league-wide referendum to get him removed after another year.

And people drank at our LL field...one guy got booted for being belligerent and drunk yelling at the ump.

The whole vibe was so lackadaisical and unstructured. You had a t-shirt and a mitt and that was it. Random kids from the stands got paid a a dollar to change the score for a full game on the centerfield scoreboard with the metal placards but they'd usually pocket the money and go to the arcade after the first inning.

Bad News Bears is real. Drinking, cussing, players calling each other names and slurs. That shite happened even in the 80's too. Not just the 70's.

Dazed and Confused is almost exactly my high school years. other than the extreme paddling, pretty much spot on.

The Simpsons, South Park and Beavis and butthead (really just mike judge's entire body of work)

The Simpsons season 3-10 will be the pre-cell phone life and South Park will be the transition.

Animal House

Animal House came out a month before I pledged. Other than the all-out attack on the homecoming parade at the end, everything in the movie turned out to be true. Motorcycles and cars in the house, underage girls lying about their age, multiple meetings with the dean that ended with multiple probations and suspensions, thinking that you were friends with the black bands that played at the house, getting high and drunk with the teachers... all of it.

Rush of the next year, we had a record number of guys going through rush and pledging.

Hell, I've actually shown them a major motion picture shot in my hometown, where I can point out friends of mine in the crowd scenes:

Same here, I was already out of school when the movie came out but it sure brought back fond memories including the big shot ROTC officer, road trips, hiding kegs in the house. Great times!
