Ok don't blast me too much for this but I haven't seen any alien movie. It/they have been on my list for quite some time and I think this thread was just the kickstart I need to bring that back to the forefront, so I will knock them out soon .

My main question stemming from this thread though is that it looks like everyone keeps saying AlienS with no mention of Alien. Was the sequel that much better than the original?

He didn't direct Alien, Ridley did.

All good which I think makes Aliens his best film. He took on a sequel of an existing movie that he did not direct and is considered one of the greatest Sci Fi/Horror movies of all time and made a film just as good, if not better, than the original. To me, that is his Magnum Opus.

Easily my favorite of his.

No, the original is equal, but he wasn’t involved with that film.

True Lies is so good.
There was a period when I was in college where it was on AMC basically every night for a month.

One of my buddies and I had it on, for either partial or complete viewing, every night.

Agreed. T2 is the king of action movies. Story, characters, pacing and the timing it came out....unmatched. Can watch it over and over.

Who watches movies in 3D anymore? It's still just a gimmick that is only really utilized by the avatar movies

It showcased modern 3D tech but just made the film feel puffy or with stacked images. The only real payoff being a scene with an object or explosion coming toward the audience. That same scene then looks ridiculous in standard viewing.

The original is a horror movie, the sequel is straight up action.

But the movie kind of sucks. So it's certainly not his best movie.

And does anyone care to watch any movie in 3D other than Avatar? I love going to the theatre, but I could go the rest of my life without ever watching another 3D movie. I don't think I've watched any 3D movie outside of Avatar, it's normally just a gimmick to make more money for all the other movies doing it.

Completely agree. Like i said, all 5 of the Avatar films will be seen as one 20 hour epic (or whatever it ends up being) and people will actually appreciate it.

It’s Titanic, hands down.

It’s a complete narrative and genre departure for him. So much so, that everyone thought it would sink him.

The rest of his films are all science fiction (True Lies being the lone exception). Dude stepped out of his comfort zone and created a historical costume drama on par with and as significant as Gone With the Wind.

What’s more: it was such a passion project that he forewent his salary in exchange for profit sharing. If the movie was as much of a disaster as the ship itself, Cameron would have made nothing.
