I think the whale would have died because Superman would probably push it back out to sea thinking it just got too close to shore where George actually saved the great fish.

If Superman was living at Del Boca Vista before Jerry's parents moved down there and they found him would they have stayed?

If they had found Superman and stayed down there they should have also been neighbors with Rookie and Belle Carroca from the movie "My Favorite Year". I want to see a scene with Jerry, George and Benjy Stone trying to keep Benjy's Uncle Morty from asking Superman to make diamonds out of a all of the pieces in a bag of charcoal.
