Scream? Something to get her into the genre but also truly scare the shite out of her. Mid-40s woman.

I’m thinking Poltergeist, although idk if it’s horror. It’s scary, though.

Watch a marathon of

The Last House on The Left (1972)
The Brood and I Spit on Your Grave (both 1979)
The Thing (1982)
And Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer

If she’s still with you by the end of Henry, put a ring on her finger if you haven’t already.

If you're on a date, have her watch A Clockwork Orange and tell her its your favorite movie...and then start humming "Singing in the Rain." That'll scare the shite out of her.

Given her experience, you should go with The Ring. Pretty close in time to Scream. Very scary for most people. Not too gross or twisted.

The Ring. Female lead, creepy characters, lots of suspense. Will freak her out for a long time.

I would stay away from older films as part of an intro. She may not appreciate them as much and not be impressed with the poorer special effects.

The Biden Administration is the worst horror show I’ve ever seen.

It may depend on her disposition/personality make-up.

If she’s religious, maybe The Exorcist or The Omen?

If she’s frail & single, a serial killer/slasher flick like Halloween might draw on a relatable fear?

If she’s sentimental, maybe The Sixth Sense?

If she’s an intellectual, maybe a psychological movie like The Shining?

If she tough and boisterous, maybe a monster horror flick like Jaws, Alien, or The Thing might entertaining for her. Or cheap jump-scare movies like Insidious or The Conjuring might crack her tough outer demeanor?

While I’m being obviously facetious with my extreme examples, I actually believe it’s more important to break someone in with the older classics.

You have condition them into appreciating the mood and atmosphere that those earlier films do with such craft rather than jump scares.

It’s not about how “realistic” the gore is either. (None of it is realistic. If it were realistic like Henry: POASK, it would be almost unwatchable.) It’s about how well the spooky atmosphere is established.
