What happened to Emile Hirsch?

Watched an Into the Wild scene that randomly popped on my feed this morning, and damn this kid was incredible in that movie. He played such a perfectly charismatic and idealistic yet impossibly naive kid so damn well. He was similarly very impressive in The Girl Nextdoor, and then he sorta just disappeared.

Is he the guy whose shtick doesn’t age, and once he gets to a certain age that coming of age / loss of innocence character doesn’t work anymore? What happened to him?

He last big profile movie was his supporting role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Seems like he’s been doing passion projects and indies since then.

He’ll resurface in the near future I’m sure.

I assume you didn’t see Alpha Dog. He played totally against the “shtick” you mentioned.

How many of his movies have you actually seen?

This probably did it more than anything

I’ve always enjoyed movies he’s in. Saw him advertised in a couple recent straight to free movies on Roku so watched. They were both horrible. I find that’s the case with most newer movies tho.

He was the front man for two relatively large movies, and then it’s been basically nothing leading for 10 years. I guess y’all are saying he’s still “working”, but it seems like he could’ve been Idk maybe not an It Guy but something relatively close and much beyond what he’s become.

Pretty sure he punched a girl in the face or put her in a headlock at Sundance and has to do damage control since.

It was a fun teen movie but got more interesting after finding out it was based on a true story and apparently a very accurate depiction of events.

Great movie, great soundtrack. Possibly the best pairing of a biographical film and a documentary (Lords of Dogtown / Dogtown and Z-Boys). Similar soundtracks, which makes me wonder if Peralta got a deal with the music rights.

One of his problems is that he's about 5' 7 (I think he's probably closer to 5'5). He played teen guys in those movies. You can only do so much with him. He's much better being a supporting actor than carrying a movie as a lead.

He was in Lone Survivor and I was thinking that wasn't too long ago, then realized that movie came out in 2013

I think he went into rehab around that time too, so I'm sure that played into it as well.

I know at some point he was making music (not great music) and was also doing some voice work (he was on Robot Chicken).

Looks like the next big thing for him was going to be a Pretty Boy Floyd biopic he was a part of with Thomas Jane, Harvey Keitel but it looks like it's "still in development".

I agree with this. I enjoyed the movie.

Lords of Dogtown is GOAT as well.

And to answer OP's question, yes he assaulted a woman several years ago, and I imagine he's still suffering somewhat from that.
