Tora, Tora, Tora... and The Longest Day both awesome and accurate.

1917, they shall not grow old (not really a movie, more of a documentary using real WWI footage colorized and digitized), both the OG and the new all quiet on the western front are great as well.

Apocalypse Now. Truly a beautiful picture given the tech limitiations of the era when it was shot

This reminded me of the first day in Family Law where the prof showed War of the Roses. He did it to make the point no matter how sane clients were before they started divorce proceedings they would be absolutely insane for the duration.

Anything WW2, Vietnam or Civil war. I won’t watch Blackhawk Down or anything resembling my time in Iraq or Afghanistan.

We have a movie board, for good reason.

The Winds of War based on the novel by Herman Wouk, the prelude to WW2. Both the novel and film are excellent. He also wrote The Caine Mutiny, another classic.
South Pacific by James Michener is another WW2 classic worth reading or watching the film adaptation. His historical novel about Texas is excellent. Michener is one of the great historical novelists.
Full Metal Jacket is authentic in the sense it doesn’t over dramatize the combat scenes. The Marine boot camp section is as close as any to how it was in those days and mirrored my experience.
Apocalypse Now and the Deer Hunter are subtle anti-war films not 100% historically accurate but compelling drama. There are scenes in both I have difficulty watching, and haven’t viewed either in years.
Platoon for me had too many overly dramatic combat scenes, but a lot of truth in much of Oliver Stones narrative about his Viet Nam experience.

Had no idea there was a movie about this, I know a mini series exists. I heard Seth McFarlene was working on a project for this and war and remembrance. That was 3 years ago. Maybe Covid slowed him down.
