I've never read any of the books, and I thoroughly enjoyed pretty much all of the HP movies. Sure, there are some silly/stupid things throughout them, but for the most part it's an interesting, coherent story and decently acted.
To each his own, I guess.

Do the books give alot more backstory on everything?
Yes, but they are aimed at 10-16 year old kids.

I'm just ready to finish the last one and I don't have any desire to rewatch them. I don't see what all the excitement is about this .
A lot of people were the same age as the characters when they started reading the books. They’re really fun for pre-teen/teenagers who aren’t too cynical yet. I never found the movies to be anything special.

One thing the movies did not get right, or at least didn't translate correctly, was the relationship between Dumbledore and Harry. In the books, Dumbledore was this witty, kind old man who was a father figure to Harry. In the movies, Dumbledore just seemed angry all the time, and I never got the sense that Harry looked up to him.
Really, the movies didn't handle any of Harry's relationships very well. In the books, he had all of these older wizards who knew his parents, and guided him through his adventures. Sirius Black, Prof. Lupin, Dumbledore. When they died in the books, it really meant something. In the movies, it was like "yeah ok, next scene."

quote:Dobby was a fantastic book character that’s why people were so upset. The movies don’t do him justice
3) Dobby has just died and while i knew it was coming from the spoilers over the years, he has about 10 minutes total screen time and I didn't find it sad at all

Haven't read the books and I just finished Deathly Hallows part 1.
Think I found the problem.
