That movie was awful.

I only saw it once when it first came out to the rental stores, but if I went watched it now, I wonder if it would be a "so bad it's good" kind of movie.
It's a "so good it's good" movie, you just have to recognize the time it came out. In the 80s, it wasn't as weird to see literal children hitchhiking 1/3 of the way across the country. I mean shite, in Over the Top (see my thread from last year for discussion) the 14 year old son runs away, goes to the airport, gets on a plane and clies to Vegas, all by himself.
But the movie itself is awesome. Sure, it was one gigantic ad for Nintendo, but that's why it was so great. And the Video Armageddon shite at the end is all the more awesome when you understand that those really were a thing back then. A while back I bought a Video Armageddon t-shirt and love the weird looks it gets when I wear it.
But you should definitely watch it now as an adult. Obviously it's not ground-breaking cinema, but it's very 80s in that there's just a simple idea and simple execution, and it's all done well enough to be entertaining. And the biggest thing that stands out now is how, for the most part, Putnam is treated pretty badly for trying to track down a child that was reported missing and returning him to his parents....including a very blatant false accusation of child molestation.

Man. As a nine year old I wanted the power glove and SMB3 after this movie so bad.

I've watched this a ton with my son (6) and he freaked the frick out when I told him the PowerGlove was real.
Then he was deeply saddened when I explained to him just how huge of a piece of shite it was.

Finally something we can agree on.
He was weird and taking down a quarry that didn't want to go, but she straight up MeToo'd the guy with ZERO evidence, multiple times, causing him to be assaulted by various men.
And does it all with a smug smirk.
Yet somehow she's supposed to be the good guy.
And we wonder how women got the idea of using baseless accusations to take down men in authority.

I literally only remember the Power Glove and we all thought that was the baddest arse thing that ever existed

Besides the power glove and the kid saying "California", the only thing I remember is when the main girl gets rid of the antagonist by screaming he touched her breasts.

She does it multiple times. It's basically her catchphrase. I'd hate to be her boss. Or her boyfriend.

Does she? I only remember it with Putnam in the casino.

No she only says it once. Post evidence proving otherwise.

She says it to make them assault Putnam at the casino
She also says it to make the Truckers beat him up, to give him a black eye
She alludes to Fred Savages character that she can say that someone touched her breasts to get them in trouble.

Saw it in the theater, The Wizard and Little Monsters were two big movies from Fred Savage in 1989.

I’ve watched it a few times with my boys, and we all love it. I was blown away by how awesome it was as a kid… saw it at a friends sleepover.
Most of my thoughts have already been discussed already. I’ll add that as an adult I cringe when dad goes all demolition derby on Pat for slashing his tires… that was a nice looking little truck. He went berserk
