I don't know much about how the movies are supposed to portray the characters skill in regards to Cannon but id imagine there were many jedi before the Pretrilogy and 4-6, like in the age of the Revan, etc that were much more powerful.

I agree with this except that Anakin is above Obi Wan. Obi should be 3 and Anakin 4

This is so far from being a correct statement that I don't even know where to begin. I'll assume you prefer to be babied and hate tough mentors. You must be a millennial.
It's something he made up in his head and repeats occasionally. You would be better off ignoring any of his posts on movies. Especially Star Wars and Interstellar.

Of course Palpatine threw the fight. I thought that was pretty obvious.

Way more obvious than Dottie dropping it on purpose.

I have a feeling by the time the credits roll on episode VIII, Luke will jump to #1.

Eh, Lucas says in the commentary for ROTS that WIndu wins.

Not only that, if it's plausible that Palpatine threw the fight, it's just as plausible that he entered into the fight in the first place knowing he would lose, and that he just had to hold off Windu for enough time for Anakin to return. But in either case banking on Anakin to return, and for that to progress exactly like it did, is both a bad plan and bad writing.

Killing Windu would have blown up his entire plan. And if you goad Windu into a fight that you may have to kill him in would be a huge mistake. At the same time, entering into a fight that you can't win if Anakin doesn't show up, is equally as bad.

There should be an asterisk next to Luke's name. He obviously lost a step when he got older. Everyone knows he started juicing with anabolic midichlorians that he got from A Rod's guy.

Well, I mean, he did.

It just looked thrown. bad writing is nothing new.

Bingo. If you bring the Extended stuff into this, it gets even murkier with Windu's whole fighting style and all that.

It's almost an unanswerable debate given the bad writing.

Looks like this has been debated on every message board ever created.

Here's a Reddit post that's kinda neat.

Try Yoda vs. Vader. I think there were message boards created for that very purpose

So deep down the nerd hole, holy cow

At least we can all agree that Luke is underwhelming...at this point in time.

I hate to even compare him given the differences in the sets of movies. "Greatest Jedi"...at what?

Would be cool to find out that Luke brought down that Star Destroyer in the trailer this way. The character of Starkiller is based upon Lucas' original character, hence the name.

I'm just saying that the lightsaber duels were way over-the-top and clearly were shot by someone who doesn't understand how action actually works

That's irrelevant to my point.

It isn't hard to believe though that after thousands of years of perfecting lightsaber combat styles, Jedi couldn't be taught how to fight that way.

The only ridiculously over the top duel was Obiwan vs Anakin at the end of Episode III.

I'm by no means an expert but if we are only including cannon I think it makes sense that Luke would be somewhat underwhelming. How old is he at the end of ROTJ? Like 28 at the oldest? It makes sense that he would grow immensely as a Jedi in the coming years especially given his late start
