Was Little Carmine actually smarter than everyone thought?

His "slip" when he pisses off Phil during the sitdown with Tony over Phil's brother being murdered by that animal Blundetto ("whatever happened there..") - maybe it was intentional? Get whatever's left of Phil's NY crew and the NJ crew to destroy each other in a war.

Sure seems that way. Living rich in Miami but away from the action that got everyone else killed... rigging wet t-shirt contests.

The story he told Tony after his round of golf about the empty box ("Go fill it up and come back.", the contents being happiness instead of being rich, powerful, and paranoid) and his wife telling him she didn't want to be the richest widow was a brief moment of brilliance.
Considering he "survives" the show, maybe he was playing everyone.
Carmine, Jr. kind of reminded me of Claudius in "I, Claudius". He survived all the assassinations and squabbles around him by being thought to be no threat and "a fool".

In this sense, he's the smartest character in the whole show.
