Rowling could make a killing by spending the rest of her life publishing background spin-offs.

She is already the first billionaire in the world who made her fortune as an author. These books still sell well and she is still printing money.

I think you are also misinterpreting school, research, and development as a "great wizard". I know I was a terrible college student, but I'm a pretty damn good auditor.

Really nice write up!

I think Harry was slightly above average overall, but well above average in a few key things.

I think of Harry as a young man with slightly above average athletic ability that worked really hard to master the fundamentals of his "sport". A huge portion of his success can be summed up in one piece of advice that he got from Barty Crouch impersonating Mad-Eye Moody:

quote:

I’m just going to give you some good, general advice. And the first bit is – play to your strengths.”

quote:

“My second piece of general advice,” said Moody loudly, interrupting him, “is to use a nice, simple spell that will enable you to get what you need.”

If wizarding was basketball, Harry would not be Jordan or Lebron, He would be Tim Duncan. Consistently taking what the defense gives him and being better at the basic fundamentals than everyone else on the court. Good enough that he can't be ignored at either end of the court and willing to use the strengths of those around him to get a team win. Not really a flashy "Oh Wow" type of playmaker, but great at making the right play every time and relentless in his execution.

True. Harry and Ron were allowed to become Aurors anyway because Shacklebolt, the new Minister of Magic, decreed that anyone that fought in the last battle at Hogwarts for the good guys could try to be an auror. Of course, auror training is like Navy Seal training and few make it all the way through.

If we're being completely honest, there was no way Harry wasn't going to end up with that job.

Imagine the interview.

Interviewer: "Mr. Potter, while your resume is impressive, I'm afraid we just aren't com-"

Harry: I killed Voldemort.

Interviewer: "Yes we understand that, but you failed to gradu-"

I like how they cast all these actors as young kids, as the series progresses and the years pass they end up with an entire cast of attractive young adults with the exception of Ron. Missed the mark on that one. Hermoine grows up into a total smoke show, even Ginny blossomed into a hotty, for a soulless redhead.

Some serious prognastication skills there.

Harry doesn't make it past year one without Ron. He's the only reason Harry was able to make it to the philosopher's stone b/c of his wizarding chess skills.

Well, really, if Harry hadn't made it any further, then the Philospher's Stone would have been safe. All Harry did by showing up was risk his life and frick up Dumbledore's plan.

OotP was the most aggravating adaption off all the books IMO. Just so much left out, which I understand, you can't put all of the book in the movie, but it was just butchered. It's like they had lunch plans and had to get the shoot over ASAP.

The only thing I think they fricked up on leaving out was Snape's Worst Memory, and I would have appreciated more time with the Weasleys terrifying Umbridge. OotP is a very sloppy book. and could have been shortened by a good 200+ pages. HBP has much more plot to cover than Order did, and I think Rowling learned from it and made HBP and DH better books as a result.

Harry was an above average wizard who tried hard and maxed out his abilities but he was far from a great wizard. While he wasn't book smart he did have the real world experience. He was also way ahead of his peers in battle experience. He took over as the instructor of Defense Against the Dark Arts in the Room of Requirement for Dumbledore's Army when Umbridge took over Hogwarts and banned the practical teaching of the class instead instituting a policy of learning it from a historical perspective.

Thing is, Bellatrix, or any other Death Eater, could have killed him easily but they all passed on the deed so Voldemort could do it himself. That was the fatal flaw in their plan, it wasn't Harry's magic that made him impervious to Voldemort it was his mother's magic and the final spell she cast, protecting him with her life. It was magic Voldemort could not understand so he did not have the power to kill Harry, but Bellatrix could have finished him easily. The protection didn't extend to anyone else, he was only impervious to Voldemort.

Oh, and the most hated character in this entire series is Dolores Umbridge. I loathed her and wanted that B to die a horrible death.

So im listening to the Goblet of Fire audiobook and Harry just caught himself on the stairs coming back from the prefect bathroom. He dropped the egg and the map and they were out of reach for him to get them back under the cloak with him....He had JUST learned a damn summoning charm like 5 chapter before and didn't use it...he may have been a great wizard, but he did some dumb shite from time to time
