What part do the rings play in any of this story?
Cite specifics.

I didn't say the rings were in this story, but 'ABSOLUTELY NOTHING' is quite a broad statement on your part. Since you want examples, I'd say the creation of Helm's Deep has quite a lot to do with the LOTR story.
Anyway, direct connection to LOTR or lack thereof is not the problem with this movie, nor is animation. It's just another tiresome, politically driven work with a shallow, annoyingly omnipotent central character.
We agree on a lot of things, but damn you are such a zealot.

Lord of the Rings is but a small part of the whole of Middle Earth.
Yes, some of the same players show up, but they're not dealing with anything related to the Rings.

On this, we agree.

Wow! I was so epically owned!!
*But appreciate the thread on the trash heap of a movie. Saved me the effort.

I thought it was ok for an animated movie. I wanted to go to the movies and gave it a shot. It was nowhere near as good as something like Blue-eyed Samuari. It had loose connections to all the other LOTR/Hobbits movies, which was kind of cool.
I didn't get the impression she was a lesbian or that it was pushing that narrative. She just didn't want to marry her cousin or her childhood friend, who was a bit of a bitch anyway. She was very entitled and coddled, with an army protecting her. So she lived in her whole fantasy world, which all crumbles around her.
Her story is very similar to the princess in the LOTR series, who has to pretend to be a man to join the battle. Then ends up being central to winning the war. I didn't see a big difference. I'd watch it again, if it's streaming..

I guess I have zero awareness. When I saw they were making an animated LOTR movie, I just assumed this was made for streaming. Shocked it was released in theaters.

That was enjoyable and made sense. For a host of reasons.
But this? It falls apart immediately as the story is less about Helm Hammerhand than it is a daughter Tolkien never got around to giving a name.
Would it work as a generic anime movie, without ties to Lord of the Rings?
And aside from the girl-boss nonsense, the interjection of ANY talk of RINGS, be it the one or any other, is simply terrible story writing and utterly out of place for a Tolkien story. The ONE Ring wouldn't even be worth a mention at this time. Most humans, if they had even heard of it, would view it on par with Excalibur. A fable. Lost to history.

I guarantee he’s watched the Critical Drinker review no less than 7X.

I watched it a couple weeks ago. The animation style was the biggest problem. It seems like they tried to save money be skipping every other frame because it was incredibly jumpy and the mouth animations were particularly bad.
The outrage over the girl-bossery and lesbianism was overblown and distracted from the films actual problems. Helm’s kill count far exceeded hers and the woman in OP’s screenshot is the main character’s 60+ year old godmother/bodyguard, not her lover.
Saruman’s cameo was laughably unnecessary and there is an eye-rolling connection to the One Ring.

Too busy reading The Children of Húrin.
You know, actually from the mind of Tolkien himself.

Really? That Ring?
That's the weakest of member berries for normies. Awful.

I'm plowing through Morgoth's Ring right now.
Interesting to read how Tolkien went back and forth on pivotal concepts through the development...
a) it's ok and expected for the Living to attempt to commune with the Houseless (the Elven fea who have lost their bodies)
to
b) it's strictly forbidden to attempt to commune with them, since by rejecting the summons of Mandos they have turned to evil.
Oh, and the debate of the Valar discussing the fate of Finwe and Miriel is amazing. Never let it be said Tolkien didn't have the ability to discuss policies and politics in his work. Justice versus the Higher Road.
