I would love to see The Riddler. I just ask that they keep the guy out of tights. Something like this with a Nolan twist could work.

I would cast Will Arnett as a very subdued Riddler

whoever Nolan has playing the Riddler, I'm sure will be good, can't argue with what he has done so far.

Sleeper for the Riddler:

Brad Pitt - He plays a really good crazy guy. He and Bale would be a good match.

I'll throw in my vote for Ed Norton Jr. to play anything in the batman series. He pulled off a quite type crazy guy very well in fight club.

I thought I read Nolan was looking to have Poison Ivy in the 3rd installment.

But I've also read that Nolan is partial to the "Long Halloween" story line which includes Joker, Two Face and Catwoman and Bale is pushing the "Dark Victory" story line but it includes characters like Penguin and when he takes in Dick Grayson as a boy. Dark Victory also includes Pioson Ivy and Riddler though.

*drool*

The Riddler could also be played by the preacher kid from There will be Blood.

I remember reading in the comics about a serial killer who would cut a mark on his skin for everyone he killed. He was in the storyline where Bane broke Batman's back- I don't remember the name though. I think he would be a cool minor villian.

Also, I think someone referred to this storyline earlier with how awesome would it be if they went with that storyline? Bane breaks Batman's back and someone else takes over as Batman for awhile who was darker, more violent, etc.. I think it was "Azreal" or something? I wasn't crazy into the comics but this rings a bell.

ETA: Apparently the killer's name was Mr. Zsasz

To me Bane would fit best with the vision Nolan has. The Riddler, Penguin, and Mr. Freeze just seem to cheesy to fit in with what Nolan is trying to do.

Next question: Who would play him?

Sorry, but going back to the original question. Why does the penguin have to be so hokey? I'm a movie and tv guy. I never read comics growing up. I agree the tim burton's penguin was too over the top for me, but does the penguin have to be a 1/2 penguin 1/2 man mutant that eats fish whole and lives in the sewer? Can't he just be a portly guy with a big nose in a purple suit with a bow tie and a monocle like he was in the Adam West TV series?

Anyone know the DC Comics history of the Penguin character?

Could work, but depends on how they handle the whole chemical thing that she does.

Interesting. Weird, considering how Bale seems against a Robin at all.

Mr. Zsasz. He was actually in Begins as an easter egg.

I think it could work if handled correctly. Filming both Batman 3 and 4 at the same time or something. Having Bale in 4, but not as Batman...introduce Azreal in 3, let Bale have the break and he can come back in 5.

Nolan has a such a clear concept, that I don't doubt he could figure out how to use weird characters. That's why I've said the Paul Giamatti as the Ventriloquist too, that's gold right there.

It's not that he's too hokey, it's that he's a terrible villain. Probably the absolute worst Batman villain. He's the only one I would say wouldn't work in any way whatsoever. But then again, I trust Nolan, so if he chooses Penguin, he would have a good reason.

Batman Returns is a fairly accurate retelling of hi history actually.

He doesn't have to be hokey. He could be an odd looking, mob boss/nightclub owner.

I like the idea of the Riddler as the next primary villain but can see Poisen Ivy being done really well.

Guess I should have read my own link.

So I take it that he may be back in TDK or sometime after that- since they left him at large.

I agree with whoever said Brad Pitt would make a good Riddler. I was also think Leo Dicaprio. His Howard Hughes role made me think he'd be a decent Riddler; and if it comes down to it, he can just go into Arnie Grape mode and really get crazy.
