Upcoming “the Passion of the Christ” sequel gets distributor

Depends on what it can do to draw secular movie-goers like the first one.
Seems to me that Gibson wants to make this like an MCU-style format with multiple movies. He wants to make it an even bigger spectacle than the first, which will be very difficult to do. What made the first film so good was how simple it was with telling the story. I don’t think there’s any denying that this will probably be a much different film in terms of cinematography, music, tone, etc.

Show up for this one .. If they went to Passion, they’d be interested in this one
And the church groups will go to it like the first one.

Here’s the problem: less people are going to movie theaters now compared to 2004. Statistics show it. The younger generations are shifting to alternative forms of media such as TikTok, podcasts, and streaming services. They’re also becoming much more secular at increased rates.
The reality is that it’s twice as hard now to make a smash-hit mid budget film that will attract audiences from all demographics. I love Mel, and there’s no denying that he’s one of the most innovative filmmakers of all time, but the odds this time are stacked heavily against him. It’ll take an incredible production team, an incredible musical composer, and an incredible cinematographer in order to pull it off. The other factor I wonder about is how much CGI he’ll be using in this one due to the story being a much larger scope.

And it wasn’t overtly Christian at all. That was the MSM away of painting it as conspiracy when it dealt with kids being trafficked and the Epstein issue was lingering so they try to distance everyone from it

That wasn’t a Christian film entirely. It had elements of Mormonism sprinkled into it. It grossed about $251 million against a $15 million budget which isn’t bad at all but nothing like PotC.

Will we get an New Testament 2: Age of Judas? Will there be a giant brawl between an enraged Peter and Jesus downtown?
