Is it movies we now agree don't suck or is it movies we didn't think sucked back in the 80's? Cuz there's a few I loved back in the 80's that I think suck now and there's some I wouldn't watch cuz I thought they were sucktacular then or they were Chick flicks and I was a teen who would never get caught watching a Chick flick.

Pick your poison. We are open to either. Although I would answer that with the "now," with the now really meaning, "Movies that will never suck."

Being that it's a baseball movie, he should've listed it thrice on the "out" list.

I haven't looked at any comments, so I'm sure some of these have already been made fun of, but oh well.

I have not seen some of these since the 80's, but they left a lasting impression. I know that other movies that I loved in the 80's did not survive a recent rewatch, so some of these may suck as well. However, they were awesome when I was a kid or teen.

1 Raiders of the Lost Ark
2 They Live
3 Die Hard
4 Bull Durham
5 Empire Strikes Back
6 Aliens
7 First Blood
8 The Terminator
9 Caddyshack
10 Ferris Bueller's Day Off
11 Who Framed Roger Rabbit
12 Lethal Weapon
13 The Hitcher
14 Back to the Future
15 To Live and Die in L.A.
16 The Karate Kid
17 Risky Business
18 Better off Dead
19 Trading Places
20 The Shining

The 80’s hit me from ages 4-14. So for me, the 80’s movies were more about comedy, action/adventure, and coming of age than it was drama, art, tone, and message/theme etc. I judge these not really as a 35 year old taking these movies out of context, but more as a nostalgic child of the 80’s. These movies were more about magic for me and all that other crap you believe in before you become an adult. Also, there’s Platoon.

1 Goonies (T’was the best mixture of adventure, comedy, and coming of age)
2 Empire Strikes Back/Jedi- Really on this list for Empire but I’ll claim ROTJ as a kid.
3 Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
4 Raiders of the Lost Ark/Temple of doom
5 Breakfast Club
6 Back to the future
7 Airplane!
8 Stand by me (the best King adaptation not named Shawshank)
9 Karate Kid- The only movie not named Rocky IV that I cheered in theatres for (I was 9)
10 A Christmas story
11 E.T.
12 Hoosiers
13 Princess bride
14 Clue
15 Aliens
16 Die Hard
17 Beverly Hills Cop
18 Rocky IV and III (don’t care if they were cheesy)
19 Caddyshack
20 Platoon

The 20 that didn't make it in no particular order...

Real Genius
Weird Science
Fletch
Eight men out
Trading places
Who framed roger rabbit
Vacation
Coming to America
Bull Durham
The gods must be crazy
Big
Mr Mom
The Shining
This is Spinal Tap
Raising Arizona
The Hollywood Knights
Spaceballs
The Toy
Glory
Fatal Attraction isn’t going to be ignored, Dan!!

Notable movies I have never seen or completed: Blade runner/Raging Bull/the killing fields/the last emperor/ran/once upon a time in america/midnight run/Amadeus/prizzi’s honor/blue velvet/last temptation of Christ/brazil/my left foot/miller’s crossing/out of Africa/gandi/dangerous liasons

That's awesome. I think many of the posters your age used similar values when making their list. I was already an adult during those times but a few "kid's movies" still made my list. That was a great decade for adventure films and just outright "fun" movies. Looking at all the "fun" movies on everyone's list makes me kind of jealous of you guys. I may have to make up a list of favorites from my childhood (six-16)& post them with a disclaimer in my list post. I don't think there will be nearly as many fun ones.

i voted in others, and one thing that struck me was the lack of really good comedies in the 90's and 2000's and then i wondered if i thought that because of my age.
i was much more likely to choose deeper, darker movies for 90's and 00's or movies with messages. Most of the movies i picked were like picking out rides i liked. since the 80's framed me from 4-14 they were the movies that hit me before high school and college.

1) Do I have all writers who would like to write?

2) If you need to finalize your list, please mark it with, EDIT:FINAL at the end.

Empire is going to win this.

Glad someone else had Cinema Paradiso - it's the movie made for lists like these - a childhood story about the love of cinema.
