Tyson on Netflix - Oct 13th

Netflix documentaries have been below average. They care more about amount of content than good content.

How many damn Tyson docs there gonna be?

The Tyson (2008) doc was pretty damn good.

I am sure this one will offer nothing new about him, but I will likely watch just because that dude is so fricking fascinating.

Tyson is about the last person that needs another documentary about him.

The Undisputed Truth, Tyson, Tyson: The Knockout, and now this. There will be very little new information. I'll probably watch because I'm a Tyson fan but it will just be regurgitated info.

Great boxer, but easily the most overrated boxer of all time by casual fans.

Well that one is not even debatable. Ali is better than Tyson. By a lot.

Ali is arguably my all time favorite athlete. But there is certainly a case to be made for Joe Louis as the greatest heavyweight of all time. I won't deny that.

But the difference is both of those guys, Ali and Louis have a case for the greatest pound for pound of all time. Although Sugar Ray really takes that title.

Tyson is MAYBE, maybe, a top 10 heavyweight. I would probably have him around 10 but that's because I like him, he could easily be ranked outside of the top 10. Much less pound for pound across all boxer. He's probably top 75. But you have a loud, large, generation of men that watched 3 years of boxing ever and they will claim that Tyson is the greatest boxer/heavyweight of all time. Which is ludicrous.

You may think Ali is overrated, but he isn't even close to being as overrated as Tyson is. Alit is in the discussion for what most people rank him as, Tyson is not even in the discussion.

By a lot or clearly better, however you want to put it. There is zero case to be made that Tyson is better than Ali. Ali fought 5x as hard of competition than Tyson did and every truly good fighter Tyson fought (which wasn't many), either beat him or gave him hell.

Most of Tyson's greatness is what if. He could have went down as an all timer but the fact is he had a relatively short career and didn't beat many great boxers.

Well, this is crazy Usyk is great and a hall of famer. But the guy has like 6 career heavyweight fights. He's been impressive in them but spent the majority of his career in a lower division. He's a better all time cruiserweight than he is heavyweight (cruiserweight/heavyweight weights have a factor in the discussion too). To say he would "beat down" Ali you'd have to say that simply because he beat Fury, Doubois, and Joshua. Three guys Ali would have destroyed. Usyk vs Holyfield would probably be the better match.

Mike Tyson may be the greatest living American.

Started at the very bottom. Went to the top. Went back to the bottom. Did his time. Ran the gauntlet and came out on the other side.

A short list of people that compete with the story of Tyson.

Listen to him every-time he goes on a long-form podcast and came to the conclusion he may well be one the wisest public figures in America.

Got the kind of wisdom you can only get from fricking up bad and having the perseverance to recover.
