Tyler Perry Movie $$$ Grossing Conspiracy Theory (per a few of my coworkers)

At work today the movie Temptation came up in discussion when one of my coworkers mentioned she saw it over the weekend. Apparently, Temptation is the first ever Tyler Perry movie to rank in the top 3 opening weekend. When I expressed my surprise about that fun fact, I got an earful about "the man" behind theater chains will sell people tickets to movies like James Bond when they purchase a ticket to a Tyler Perry movie because no one wants to see TP or black directors succeed.
I just wanted to tell them TP should stop putting out so many terrible movies, but I figured it wouldn't go over we'll since I'm a whitey.
Has anyone heard of this conspiracy or experienced it first hand?

Everyone, regardless of color, should realize that Perry makes shitty movies.

98% of white people have no desire to see his movies and they are the vast majority of theater goers. That's why they don't make tons of money.

The people at Lionsgate are geniuses. They don't give a frick what your everyday average white movie goer thinks. They found a niche market, that has never exhisted, and are exploiting it to the fullest. These movies are cheap and they can roll out 3 a year that will make good money. Why the frick would they ever stop.

Could be something to this. The candy machine in my local theater plays a stupid song that I could swear has the words "silence Tyler Perry" in it.

I agree.
They found a market that craves shite and is willing to pay for shite so they take advantage of that and make money off of it.
If I were Tyler Perry, I'd keep making those movies until I have enough money to make Bill Gates say "just ok".

I won't watch his movies because I think the one I saw was terrible, but I applaud his ability to know his target audience will watch anything he puts out and make bank.
