i find it hilarious that we're only 1 episode in and we're already at 7 pages (140+ comments) about nothing but bullshite.

My thoughts on some of the hot topics discussed here:

--CGI is very bad
--Dialogue is also very bad...Like when Foster's character just ignores the "stepdaughter" saying she didn't have to raise her and just says I'm going take a shower. No way an adult with enough of a conscience to take her in would also be that horrible
--I don't have a problem with the 2 Female leads, but they are making the dad sheriff to be an idiot thus far. Will it just be him or agenda driven as others mentioned?
--Definitely threw out multiple times about white people and the old murder investigation would still be ongoing if it was a white woman, which comes off as agenda driven because a large % of the population is not white
--The show runner's tweet asking for audience score and already blaming "bros" is a laughable & terrible look, and gives credence to everyone questioning her agenda with several different points brought up here already
--Law Enforcement in possible murder scene touching all over stuff with no gloves is pretty bad...That's the writing I think unless it will play a role later on
--Climate change..No issue here, it's quite literally what these types of labs study...And of course there will be people that oppose it, again this happens every time.
--Just first episode, but definitely did not start of strong so hopefully it gets better
--Overall about 2.5/5 stars with the pros being being cinematography and how they set up the potential stories

I mean. But it tracks given the population involved. Missing and murdered Indigenous women have often been overlooked. And you’re being really naive if you think a pretty, white girl wouldn’t have garnered more attention if missing. We see it all of the time in media.

They also showed a glimpse of the issues of alcoholism and domestic violence in that community too. I wouldn’t call that an agenda as much as a reality of the area/population we’re dealing with.

It literally started like S1 of Stranger Things. Monsters. Scary supernatural stuffs. SHE'S AWAKE. OK so the chick missing the tongue is now some supernatural being, causing all these Dyatlov Pass accidents? This is a horror movie beginning, not a True Crime show that is uncovering something really shady or scary. Did Blumhouse make this show?

It's low hanging fruit. It's easy picking. The point they were trying to make, is that they could have gone a different route, instead of getting those easy woke points.

There’s been supernatural (or unnatural) elements in two of the three previous seasons. The LA one being the exception.

For instance, last season there are multiple scenes where Hays is “looking back” from the present into a past scene where his past self senses someone watching. Things like that.

Eh, I gotta disagree. And I don’t see the dead girl as a “supernatural being” causing deaths.

A lot of Native lore involves the spirit world and communing with it. Reservation Dogs on Hulu gets into this too (in some really hilarious ways BTW). But I’m not surprised there’s that element being added given the population and area. I don’t think that’s “low hanging” at all.

They were uncovered that way (BY DETECTIVES!!!), but it's all heavily based in reality. This season...is absolutely not. This is a shitty Blumhouse horror movie with True Detective slapped on it.

From wiki:

When preparing season 4, subtitled Night Country, director and writer Issa López chose to create a "dark mirror" of the first season: "Where True Detective is male and it's sweaty, Night Country is cold and it's dark and it's female"

Bitch...it's a fricking TV show. It doesn't have any human anatomical parts. I like how she also creates a clear dichotomy; she says that True Detective is so and so but this show is the polar opposite. She's basically acknowledging that this isn't true detective, it's her show that they've just slapped the nameplate of TD on to.

No...a white dead girl being a bigger deal is low hanging fruit. Keep up. Native makes sense in a show about Alaska.

Except, it’s not. And I’m keeping up just fine.

How many men do you hear about going missing and there being a massive media push to find them? Same concept.

She is definitely getting pregnant from this. And that guy is probably involved with the missing tongue death thus creating a moral dilemma for her.

Of course you would think that scene must have some true significance to the plot, but in this case, I bet it was strictly to demonstrate her dominance, punctuated by the toothbrush

It’s possible this series will lose me as early as Ep 2

I mean.. it might be low-hanging fruit, but it's enough of a social truism that it has it's own wiki page and name:
Missing White Woman Syndrome

Enjoyed 1st episode. Lots of things set in motion. Lots of questions to be answered and tensions to be solved.

When the caribou went over the ledge it gave me biblical vibes of when the herd of pigs ran off the cliff after Jesus cast the demons from the man into them. Similar in that it’s like something was “unleashed” that took them over. The “evil” is now spreading to the people of the town.

Looking forward to more.

In the scene where Ferris Bueller / Twist and Shout is playing you can see a homage to The Thing, as a clearly visible DVD case.

Secondly, the name of the research lab is an homage to the book Tsalal by Thomas Ligotti who influenced much of Season 1.

Do we think there's anythign to be gleaned by foster's strange aversion to the beatles? Like as soon as they enter the facility she is alerted like an animal hearing one of those high pitched dog whistles. She then sprints to find the source and goes nuts trying to turn it off. Then simply says "not a beatles fan". Just seemed really weird and over the top for such a throwaway line.

I didn't think the episode was as bad as people are saying, especially for the virtue signaling, sky screamer reasons. But a major issue seems to be the Native angle forced into the season, which seems to be in order to create the mysticism to attempt to make Season 1 all over again. This is both derivative and limiting.
