i'm worried the "present" storyline won't have enough time to develop
I think we are gonna get a lot of "present" time in the last episodes.

Two more things need to happen to get us to the present. Marty and Rust fall out and Marty's daughter dies either through suicide or murder. Of course there may be factors that lead to the fall out, like the corruption of the police and government.

I believe the pending fall out has been well publicized, but have we (the audience) been told that one of Marty's daughters dies or is that just an expectation based on the series of events so far?

Which daughter?? That will be key, you will be shocked.

Could be both daughters. I can see a scenario where Queen slut takes out the younger one for resentment issues.

Check out a picture of the youngest daughter Aubrey's crown. Notice the swirls just like the tattoo.

Just updated the spoilers thread with some nice info on episodes 6 through 8. Nothing that gives away too much but gives the general direction this is going.

I've been reading your opinions since the show started and I believe you are suffering from confirmation bias. Most of your original fears regarding pacing have failed to materialize, yet you still hold on to this shitty ending theory. Regardless of how the season concludes, I get the feeling that you will proclaim it wasn't done correctly.
I've got to bump this from 2 days ago and commend Slackster for calling SFP on this. Well done.

I believe that Cohle is involved beyond what we've been told. While I agree that he has been investigating this "off the grid" since 2002, I think that we find that he was actually investigating it prior to 1995 and it was why he actually came to Louisiana. I think he stumbled onto the "Yellow King" cult while he was in deep cover and needed to get out of narco and into homocide to pursue it.
quote:
I agree with this and think it might be more closely related to the death of his daughter than what we've been told. The statement by Ledoux saying he recognized Cohle as a priest could be a hint that he's been undercover within the cult at some point.
Agree with all of this and it would also explain why he had kept the red tool box full of weapons and the biker cut.

Conversation between a reporter and th guy who plays Reggie. This settles the tattoo/ scare on his back.
quote:
UPROXX: Back to Reggie’s tattoos, there seems to be some debate online about whether or not Reggie had the spiral symbol on his back that Dora Lange’s ex-husband Charlie claimed he had while they bunking together in prison. I don’t know if you can talk about this or not. Was that symbol/tattoo there and some of us just missed it? Or not?
CHARLES: Yeah, no he’s got it, it’s branded on there, like right above the pentagram on his back, between his shoulder blades.

I have a hard time with this theory because he makes no connection to any prior knowledge of this when he a) sees Dora Lange's body displayed b) reads her diary given to him at thte bunny ranch which mentions the Yellow King

the preacher is going to be the yellow king
"HE sees you"
Quote during the young preacher's sermon and also by Ledoux before being executed. THey are obviouosly linked. I'm not sure the Yellow King is a human though. This could be a cult to worship the "Yellow King", an imaginary demon-god.

It all could be a dream in Rust's head and he wakes up at the end of episode 8.

What is rusts excuse for hanging around the crime scene the week before the crime gonna be? Gonna be hard to explain that one away.
