Anybody remember where that light of way school is at?
All I can recall is that when they went to see the girl's grandfather on Pelican Island who was the fisherman, so maybe Pelican Island? He did say when the school closed the state wanted to ship the kids two hours away for school.
edit: someone below posted this pic, looks like the school is listed in Buras.

So they stage the fallout to allow breathing room? Quite possible. Marty goes in that cell with the young guy. Does he beat the shut out of him and get kicked off the force?

One of the dudes who was about to thrash his daughter in the back seat?
I'd say it wouldn't surprise me if he does get kicked off the force for that.

There is a screenshot of them working together in 2012.

Man this was a great episode.
So It looks there's a cult with some for powerful guys that molest and abuse little kids. My crazy theory is Marty's little girl was molested by someone in the cult. Marty and Rust discover they can't bring them down so Rust goes off the grid to take out members of the cult (poisoned Billy Lee Tuttle) and to try to get to the Yellow King.

Episode 2, Cohle asks himself in the interview if his daughter "saved him from the sin of being a father"....hmmm, seems to imply he has some sinning fathers.

Can someone link a screenshot of the drawing by Marty's daughter. It had two dudes in the drawings, one with a beard like green spaghetti man and one with a mohawk, kinda like the guy in Avoylles jail.

Y'all don't give me crap but who is Tuttle again? Preacher of the traveling church?

Not sure that's crazy anymore. I definitely think there's a bunch of "missing kids" being abused/killed and their parents are part of the cult which is lead by Tuttle or Eli.
It's obvious at this point that Marty's daughter has been exposed to this cult. So there's just the matter of Marty and Cohle and are they working together "off-grid" or did they really have a falling out?
I think they had a falling out, but Marty knows Cohle is still investigating and is covering for him since his daughter was hurt by this.

They're also the ones that nailed cats on the black churches door. Remember, he said something like "there's a secret war being waged".

i think they are beating us over the head with the Tuttle involvement.
School was in Buras. Light of the Way

There are two Tuttles involved.
In Ep1, we see Rev Billy Tutte walk through the LSP station and say good work on the case, there is a war out there. His character is based on Jimmy Swaggart.
Never shown, but only mentioned is Gov Tuttle, Billy's cousin. Gov Tuttle is based on Edwin Edwards.
If your from Louisiana, you should about these two men and their vices and pitfalls. Make em cousins, throw in some dead girls and bam we have an award winning TV show.

I think those guys are just part of the cult and not the yellow king. I don't think the man with the scars has been shown yet.

Here are my thoughts:
Marty's oldest daughter in 2002. I get the vibe that she's dead by 2012. She's rebelling and basically being a dad's worst nightmare, while the younger one who is 13ish is a good girl. And the crown being thrown into the trees scene that happened earlier in the episode weirded me out. Perhaps just the older daughter was exposed to the cult? But how? She's definitely been drugged and/or raped because why would a child draw that? 2012 Marty blames himself for inattentiveness. I'm thinking (as many of you have stated) that Marty's father in law is involved somehow, and perhaps this is what led to his divorce from Maggie and the rift with Rust? Either that or possibly his oldest daughter dying, maybe even dying from cult activities, led to his divorce with Maggie. There are many cases of couples losing a child and their marriage not surviving it.
I also think there's a good chance Marty and Rust have stayed in touch or reconnected in 2012 to work on the case.
Those 2 detectives are definitely trying to pin it on Rust; probably pressure from higher-ups and/or getting paid/kickbacks for it. Or hell, maybe they're involved, but it seems like most of the sketchy/possible suspects we've met are all either methed out trashy white men or older, affluent, religious white men. We haven't seen the preacher back yet but I think we'll definitely see him again. Reggie was blabbing about the 'black stars' and stars have a lot of significant symbolism in this show. Creepy that he 'dreamed' about them too.
I have no idea what to think of the footage of the "it's tha Yellah Kang" prisoner and how he coincidentally dies the next day and how their's no volume or footage in between. Sounds like someone messed with the security camera and knows that Rust knows too much.
I have more and more questions with each episode that debuts, which is great. I have no idea how they're going to wrap it up in 3 more episodes but it's going to be crazy to watch it all unfold.

Are these the best 5 episodes of a new TV show...ever? I can't think of anything else.

Maybe not. Rev Tuttle dies in 2010 and someone is still leading the cult, so who can it be??

Don't forget about that show that premieres on April 6th and how great the first 5 episodes of it will be.

Your whole post is on point, and the "crown scene" left no doubt that Martys' daughter is being abused/groomed by the cult. There is little doubt grandpa is involved. I'm just waiting to see if Maggie is involved.

I don't think GOT is quite as good as this.
