I was wondering if they were his kids they rescued in the woods. That would explain the long term bond between rust and Marty. Something is definitely up with his kids though.

You scared me for a minute ... I had to go check what kind of Indica I've been buying. Nope, no mind control stuff yet. I should point out that LSD was an abysmal flop when the CIA tried it as a mind control substance. Good old Timothy Leary pretty much shot that idea down single handedly.
Anyway, I am personally hoping the story is less about mind control and more about your basic evil people.
OTOH Did you catch the line during the tent sermon where Rust says something to the effect that religion is like a virus that can rewire the brain?

Yes, but I'm just seeing it staying within the cult around louisiana/Tuttle. But who knows I love this show and still will if it goes father than that

This is extremely confusing to me. This girl is very young and to pick up on the things she is drawing and recreating she would have had to been exposed to it more than just in passing at school or some shite. I would think Marty would confront anyone she spent a lot of time with (family, close friends) about this and try to get to the bottom of it. The father in law could very well be involved in some fricked up shite.
Can't wait for Sunday.

What was that quote from Marty about it was right under his nose the whole time?
ETA: and we already know there are clues on the walls at his house, e.g. the spiral drawing.

Yeah I seem to remember a spiral in the guy's house; thought it was just a thematic thing.

The Detective's Curse. Was watching Ep 3 last night when he mentions this and I think I had a eureka moment. I think this is the clue that breaks the case. And I think I know what it is now.
Actually, this is in Ep 4. I mistook the episode.

So Marty's daughter has been exposed to the cult in some way. I'm thinking her grandfather, Maggie's dad, is the most likely route.

I can't think of anyone that we know the kids spend regular time with. Plus Maggie's folks seem to be pretty well off. I know she mentioned other girls at school, but I don't think that's it.

It hit me like a freight train last night

I'm not nearly 100%, but the more I test it my confidence level grows. But I'm afraid if I say it, I'm pretty sure it will make people hate me.

I haven't clicked on that thread once. I don't know why someone would want to spoil such a great series for themselves. I have my theory, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if I'm way off base.

Last time I mentioned my theory it put a lot of panties in a wad. But what I saw last night makes we want to double down on it. People here will not be happy about this.
