I agree to an extent but Rust did tell him to keep the phone by him and listen to the police scanners. Marty shows up just after the cops do so I don't think it is to far fetched that he knows where Rust is
It was pretty far fetched, but it doesnt really bother me. He prob had a map or something too i would guess.

For all we know Marty could have tailed them to the general vacinity and just been waiting on the outskirts of the brew ha ha to swoop in.
This is what I assumed since he showed up at the biker bar to basically keep him in sights.

Yeah. Rust told him if he didn't come back after the bar to listen to the police scanner and answer then phone. Plus Marty saw Rust drive off on that boat, so I'll just assume that Marty was somewhat prepared to go when needed.

My problem with this idea is that it assumes he knew where they went after getting on a boat leaving the biker bar.

I think the fat biker int eh preview is going to be "Miles", probably the head of the bike gang as was referenced by Ginger and Rust around the campfire. My guess is he is the guy who deals directly with Ledoux.
Here are my thoughts on this episode:
* From the opening shot of the camera closing in on the little hole in the door of Charlie Lange's cell this director pulls you in to the fact that the action is escalating (hallmark of any ACT 2). The performance by Brad Carter as Charlie Lange is incredible. he has owned his screen time.
*Some great one liners in this episode—"count to 100 if you can"; "they really should have a better process for this"; "has to be tough sitting next to a guy every day spouting insane shite in your ear day after day" "you must have been a great husband"
*Everyone is focused on the action of this episode because it does move much faster than the first three, however we learn a lot in this one in the first 45 minutes and also see more of complete view of Marty and Rust….1) We learn from Charlie that REggie was cooking for secret group of rich men who worship the devil and sacrifice kids and women 2) We learn that Marty's sins have found him out and his side piece went crazy and told his wife—he ends up getting kicked out and lives with Rust. this shows us more of how they bond these men formed lasted all these years. Rust was there for Marty at his lowest time, in his own way helping him cope with what he really is the only way he knew to deal with it—by throwing himself into the case. 3) Further we see how Rusts former life as a undercover has shaped his 1995 and 2012 selves. He needs a case, something to chase, something to work and obsess over to deal with the shitty world he lives in.
*Despite the first three episodes showing us how different these two detectives are; we really start to see how much they are alike despite their stated world views, their actions are pretty much the same.
*The final six minute shot in one take was exhilarating and one of the most daring things ever done on a tv show. Even though we know Cohle would make it out alive because we see him being interrogated in 2012, Fukunaga manages to keep you on the edge of your seat and almost feel the intensity as if you were inside Rust's skin during that heist.
*Wil be interesting to see what they do with Ginger. don't think they can just bring him down to the station at this point. looks like they will have to keep him "off book" and use him until he is useless..I think Ginger gone die after he makes the connections for Rust and Marty.
*I think we see the shootout at Ledoux's hideout and kids in the woods next week. Nic PIzzolato has already stated that Episode 5 is the favorite one for him and holds a special place in anything he has ever written. They have to leave room in EP6 to show what happened to them to make Rust leave the force in 2002 and then we know EP 7-8 take place mostly in 2012 and jointly comprise Act 3.

Can't wait to watch this.
I feel like I need to re-watch the first 3 episodes, but I am so impatient. This episode is being hyped up a lot.

This episode showed me how different they really are. In the last episode, Marty went on one of his rants about being able to keep things separate in his life. But in this episode, he wasn't able to stop asking questions or accusing Rust of being apart of the problem in his marriage [IMO he's the definition of someone who wants their cake and wants to eat it as well].

I think he worded it wrong. You can see them forming some chemistry together. But i wouldnt call them "alike" at all.

At the end - "ok I'm done speaking to you like a man" WHAP! WHAP!

Did Lange say that they all wore the Spiral/Yellow Sign?

Yea, C.Lange did say that. The spiral means they are a member.

Their sign is the spiral. Talked about Carcosa and a Yellow King.
Last time they talked to Charlie he said Dori had talked about becoming a nun and had met a King. I guess before he never connected the dots that the King she met and the Yellow King sacrificing people were the same people.

Is this group going to end up being like one of those Kthulu cults?

Cohle's undercover work is superb

This is how the Yellow Sign had been adapted for the Cthulhu books
Rust had this image posted on his wall in a prior episode...you had to look for it though
I think the spiral is how the cult in this show has adapted it
quote:
The King in Yellow never fully describes the shape and purpose of the Yellow Sign. Nonetheless, "The Repairer of Reputations", one of the stories in the collection, suggests that anyone who possesses, even by accident, a copy of the sign is susceptible to some form of insidious mind control, or possession, by the King in Yellow or one of his heirs. The stories also suggest that the original creator of the sign was not human and possibly came from a strange alternate dimension that contains an ominous and ancient city known as Carcosa.
