Tourists Flood The 'Joker Stairs,' Frustrating Bronx Residents

quote:

“We hope it ends soon because we don’t need this,” said Jonathan Francis, a 29-year-old who has lived in the neighborhood his entire life. “We feel disrespected.” Francis said his neighbors now have trouble using the stairs to get to work and school and that some have stopped using them out of fear of appearing in photos.

quote:

Posters warning sightseers have been taped to lampposts and walls along the staircase. “It is disrespectful to treat our community and residents as a photo opportunity,” the fliers read.

Twitter video of "insane" number of tourists taking pictures.

The media's fearmongering of innocent folks being shot because of this movie were accurate! My faith in the mainstream media has now been restored.

The Twitter video is pretty hilarious because it does show a ton of people and cosplayers with tripods blocking the stairway.

Imagine how disrespected people on M Street must feel about the Exorcist stairs. People have been taking pictures there for 40 years.

If people are trying to throw a pizza on the roof of your famous house, then you have every right to gripe. Not liking people gathering around some steps because you don’t want to accidentally be in some lady who has 17 Twitter followers cool photo is such whiny garbage.

Trying to figure out whom I hate more:

1. The people who take pics on the stairs for social media clout
2. The people who bitch about the people taking pics on the stairs for social media clout

3. The people who decide that the people from 2 are newsworthy and give them print / airtime

I mean this story is basically about locals hating social media.

I would think this board would like this story.
