yeah, they were terrible...even when they did have a funny skit, they would run it into the ground quick.
Jimmy Fallon in particular would always run a skit to the ground. He could never do a skit without laughing.

fallon's laugh always seemed so forced, like part of an act. Not only could they take a good skit and ruin it while in that particular skit, when they found something that worked, they just kept doing it over and over and over and over
ladies man
those stupid cheerleaders (they were never funny anyway)
Mary Catherine Gallagher
The soft spoken public radio DJs
it was off the wall horrible...Outside of the Ladies man, none of those skits were really that funny to begin with.

Kristen Wiig is fantastic, she does everything they need her to do. Plus she has a great career outside of SNL. I honestly don't know why she's still on that show, her options are limitless outside of it.

Out of the current cast, I think Hader, Sudeikis, Samberg, and Wiig will all be very successful for a while. Fred Armisen has a shot, too. They haven't gotten anyone good in a while though. Maybe Jay Pharoah, who is underutilized right now, but since 2005 when they got all four of the people I mentioned, who have they added?
The mid-90s were not a good time for the show since they lost all of their superstars and replaced them with people like Chris Elliot, Morwenna Banks, Ellen Cleghorne, and Mark McKinney.

Gilbert Gottfried is a BEAST.
But, alas, he sucked balls on SNL.
Probably not his fault, SNL was eclipsed by FRIDAYS that year, for God's sake.

true, but I'd take his suckage over the shite SNL put up for about 8 years straight.
USA up! all night
I also miss duckman (I know he wasn't on it) just miss the show

WTF are you smoking.
There are far more casts worse than the one you posted.

I've always like Jimmy Fallon, does that make me gay?
However, Horatio Sanz laughs in the middle of skits more than Fallon, and I have never laughed at anything done by Sanz.

when will ferrell hit, he hit big, but 95% of his skits were fricking awful. He only had a handful of good ones.

Anyone that thinks GG is funny has zero credibility.

There is no way the current cast is better than the 98-06 crew. Kristen Wiig is just plain not funny. The current crew has some good stuff, but it's few and far between.

Fallon is a better late night guy than he ever was on SNL.
I like the casts of late.

yeah, not sure what he is getting at there. Ferrell routinely wrecked shop on SNL.

I think alot of you younger folk can remember or were even around during that dreadful early 80's run. Lorne Michaels was in a huge dispute with the studio, Dick Ebersol (I believe) was taking over the show. Ackroyd, Radner, Murray, Belushi & that gang had left or been run off, & he hired a bunch of Hollywood comedic actors that coudnt do live improv/sketch to save their arse.
As bad as some of you think it may have been on and off over the last 10 years, it's still light years better than that stint
There is a very distinct reason there are very very few "classic" skits to be replayed or put on DVD from that time - not a one of them were funny. Not a single one. You'd be hard pressed to find any golden oldies with Anthony Michael Hall or Julia Louis Dreyfus. Because they dont exist

Darrell Hammond

Will Ferrell

Amy Poehler
And, yeah, some of you don't have the institutional memory to recall a couple of absolutely horrid casts and writing.

the past few years is FAR worse than any anything Ferrell's group ever did. Ferrell could make even boring skits like "get off the shed" hilarious.
Posted on 6/18/11 at 9:42 am to DelU249
i can't even read the rest of the posts, but all I have to say is the early 80's when Lorne wasn't there is the hands down winner, and you really can't argue that. everything after that is a personal opinion, and I'll let you have it.
