quote:I originally had this on my list. All of the post WWII Westerns Jimmy Stewart made with Anthony Mann are good watches His characters in Bend of the River (1952), The Naked Spur (1953) and The Far Country (1954) are all put in desperate situations. He pulls that off pretty well. The Man from Laramie (1955) isn't bad either.
Winchester ‘73
Mann also directed Man of the West (1958), which was on someone's list. Unlike most of his roles, Gary Cooper isn't always portrayed as perfect. He's an ex member of an outlaw gang.
Cimarron (1958) is another Mann movie that stars Glenn Ford. It's OK, but nowhere near being Glenn Ford's best Western. I prefer his 3:10 to Yuma (1957) to to the more recent one strictly because of Ford's character's charisma. The Secret of Convict Lake (1951), with Ford as one of a group of escaped convicts, is great. The Violent Men (1955) is another good Western he's in. Jubal (1956) is probably Ford's 2nd best Western. Ernest Borgnine and Rod Steiger co-star in it. Borgnine's character's wife is a hottie who's tired of her marriage. Cowboy (1958) is another good Ford Western that co-stars Jack Lemmon. Rounders (1965) is more a comedy Western with Ford & Henry Fonda as two old cowhands, just trying to get by in a world that no longer needs them. I feel like Ford is a very underrated Western actor in today's world.

Great post, I love Glenn Ford westerns. The Fastest Gun Alive was another good one.
Also, Jeanne Crain was smoking hot in that one.

Maybe I missed it but loved me some Young Guns back in the day. Between it, Blazing Saddles, Tombstone, True Grit and Maverick, I was pretty set growing up. Mom loved Quigley Down Under due to a certain actor so I saw it a lot too lol

Old Henry is in the Top 5 if we are ranking badassery.

I'll give this thread a go. My favorite Westerns:
High Noon (All star cast: Gary Cooper, Grace Kelly and many other stars)
The Tall T (Randolph Scott, Richard Boone and others, based upon a story by Elmore Leonard)
Rio Grande (John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara directed by John Ford)
Winchester 73 (Probably James Stewart's best western)
True Grit (The original with John Wayne and Glen Campbell)
