*not my own thoughts. Paraphrased from reddit*
Like others I was kinda confused with the gus bar scene as it did just seem kinda random and out of place, espcially with how it ended. I think we all agree that gus was stepping out and having a mini-celebration after his recent dealings with the salamancas and mexico but it ended very oddly. What someone pointed out that makes total sense to me now that I see it spelled out, is a callback to Saul telling kim after the shooting "one day we'll get up, bursh our teeth and go to work, and then we'll realize we hadn't thoguht about it all day. That's when it's over" or something liek that. in the beginning of the bar scene gus is straight up normal, and when gay dude is telling him backpacking stories gus even lights up and is excited! So guy walks off and gus is there then his mood turns. Waht the poster guessed is that the realization suddenly hit gus that he hadn't thought about it (whatever "it" is? Maybe the death of his partner way back when in the pool? Or maybe that he's a criminal druglord? idk) in a while and was letting himself be normal. But then the realization really landed that he isn't normal and he can't really allow himself to be lik ethat, so the hard face resumed and he walked out back to 100% business as usual.

Good episode, although it was a little boring (if that makes sense).
The scene at the bar with Gus was completely filler, and unnecessary. My assumption is like others have said, that they were showing Gus attempting to be normal and going out and hitting on some dude at the bar, only to recognize what he was doing and reel it in and get back into cold-blooded mode. IMO he basically likes to dabble with real life, normal shite. Almost as if to achieve that "Yeah, I still got it..." type of validation, and then cut ties and go back home.
How are there people in the thread that are shocked Gus is gay? It was only a couple of the best scenes in BB (Don Eladio killing Gus's partner/boyfriend and then later Gus getting his revenge).
The scene with Nacho's dad was good. Mike is such a great character. And having a kid changes you....when Nacho's dad says "My boy is gone.." that shite hit me hard and had me all up in my emotions.
Not looking good for Ham's theory, although I will say that it isn't 100% done yet. But it damn sure looks dead. And of course he is in here as confident as ever. At this point I almost think he somehow came across massive spoilers or is VG's nephew or some shite, and straight up knows he's right.
For a split second, I thought we may get a glimpse of badass Kim. When she made the play at Howard's ceremony, and clearly lied to his wife about the cocaine, it felt like she may have been able to pull it off. But alas, it's what ended up being the final straw and pushed her over the edge. She can't handle this life. And Jimmy can handle it with very little issue, as shown when they went home early in the episode. She stands there in an emotional trance, and he jets off the the bedroom and proceeds to live life as normal as possible.
And that kiss was very telling, and pretty sad too. Also the way Kim framed everything was telling. She was having FUN doing stupid shite with Jimmy. She enjoyed it. But then she got in way over her head, and she can't handle the weight of the real consequences of living life like that. And she's also smart enough to recognize that while she did have fun, it's not a good thing and thus she has to end it. Seeing Jimmy beg her to not do it was really sad. I feel bad for them both, despite the shite they've pulled.
The Saul timeline we got was meh for me. I never cared for Saul as a character. So that just brought me back to my BB feelings toward him.
"Take a breakfast bar" was hilarious though.
I'm hoping we get to some Gene pretty soon. I can't imagine what we have in store with that. I almost hope he gets made (or almost made) and then escapes from that, and then sees Kim living her best life with a family and whatnot, and all he can do is watch from a distance and be both happy for her and miserable that he couldn't just choose the "normal" life.
Can't wait for the last four-episode ride though. The quality of this show is incredible.

At the end Saul gets into his caddy and the license plate clearly has a Nov 05 expiration tag.
According to the BCS/BB timeline season 6 started in June 2004 and Breaking Bad begins in September 2008. Walt and Jesse meet Saul for the first time in s2e8 which is in December 2008.
I noticed the 05 tag also. I went back and looked at the opening scene from this season, when Saul's house is being cleared, and his car has an expiration tag of Jan 11. I think that the last scene that we got from s6e9 is not yet in the BB timeline.
Also, when looking in Youtube TV, it suggests that s6e11 is named "Better Call Saul", which is the same episode name from BB when Saul was introduced.

Don't think we forgot; as much as you spewed it incessenatly it'd be impossible to forget so soon.
While I agree with that, I seen several people bumping threads to call out Ham. Dude is annoying as frick in his own right, so goading him into spewing more bullshite is a bad thing. The least we can do is keep it contained to current/active threads.
This is why Ham always says "all I do is respond." Which is obviously bullshite, but when people do shite like that it justifies him posting incessantly in the threads. I mean shite, AMS bumped the S6E3 thread for chrissakes, just to goad Ham.

i cant' remember if you mod this board, but I've got a thread I want to bump. The one he created with all his theories that was intended to keep all of that in once place.

Great episode. I hope we see Kim again, and I think we will because I doubt her last line is from another room while taping a box.
But I don’t know why she would go back to KC/Omaha area. Doesn’t seem like her character to want to return to her childhood home. If we see Jimmy in the promo shots as Gene putting on the Saul jacket, maybe they cross paths again if Jimmy re-emerges as Saul to defend himself. More likely Jimmy sees her living a different life as others have said and realizes she was right, together they are toxic and that’s not what she wants.
I don’t see a way how Jimmy doesn’t end up dead or in jail. As much as I like him and can empathize with his relationship with his brother, he’s a lifelong criminal who brought all of this on himself. He’s a selfish, greedy swindler and has a wake of destruction that has to logically eventually catch up with him.

Someone else already bumped it I believe.

I thought the episode was OK. The Gus scene was weird AF, it just felt completely unnecessary. His story could've just ended with him leaving Eladio's house.
I also don't think we've seen the last of Kim. I can’t imagine Gus and Mike being ok with her quitting her job and trying to dissappear. No chance.

FYI if anyone is interested, The Watch podcast does a great job recapping these episodes and todays episode has Peter Gould on to walk through the episode.

I actually thought she was going to stick the knife in deeper with Cheryl Hamlin and tell her:
“I didn’t want to say anything, but much of what Howard rambled about that last night and was clearly upset about was you two being separated, him living in the guest house, and you two headed for divorce.”

That and the special occasion that Gus is saving the bottle of wine for is after he kills all of the salamancas
So he never got to drink the wine to celebrate? sad

I kinda thought she was gonna tell her that Howard made a pass at her as well while he was high, but she didn't.

That hooker looked a lot like Kim.

I'm not gonna lie, in that moment, the thought crossed my mind that Ham may be right if Kim was able to shake off the emotions and dig deeper while Jimmy was trying to answer his wife's accusations.

Also, Ed Begley Jr does a great job as Cliff Main. His facial expressions are always perfect

I think he enjoyed that wine in BB
quote:
Gus now described the collapse of the cartel: as Hector sat, mute, Gus triumphantly dangled Don Eladio's extravagant bad eye necklace in front of his eyes and named seven of the nine dead capos (Dons Paco, Cesar, Renaldo, Artuno, Cisco, Luis and Escalada). He then described Joaquin's death and introduced him to his grandson's killer, Jesse. As Hector started crying in anger, Gus concluded by stating that the Salamanca name will now die with Hector.

I thought the exact same thing.

My point was Gus probably never got to enjoy the wine after delivering that message to Hector. Right after that he goes after Walt & they start their war against each other. I don't think Gus took the time to enjoy that wine/celebrate his victory against the Salamancas before he got blown up a couple days later.

I liked the Gus scene with the wine. It humanized him a little bit, while also showing you how hard he’s working to stay the course. It was his one deep breath after having spent the past however-long-it-was literally hiding in the darkness fearing for his life.
