Also, another thought that struck me immediately after my last post: how flabbergastingly good is Sir Ian Holm’s taste in scripts? That dude is in just about every legitimately awesome movie made since 1975. Alien, Time Bandits, Brazil, From Hell, The Fifth Element, The Lord of the Rings... those are just the ones that I thought of off the top of my head. I know there have got to be more.

I loved it, even if the ending is weird as frick.
Of course, it's a Terry Gilliam movie, so that's to be expected. His movies read like a Who's Who of What The frick?

Gilliam has directed 13 feature films, including Time Bandits (1981), Brazil (1985), The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988), The Fisher King (1991), 12 Monkeys (1995), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), The Brothers Grimm (2005), Tideland (2005), and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009)

One of my all time favorites. I am a sucker for old timers coming to the realization that they aren't that old yet and whoopin' arse. (Theoden King)

Earlier in this thread, people compared the endings of Bandits/Brazil. That was spot on. Kudos.

For this one Gilliam had to promise a happy ending. So he included fireworks in the sky to add his own sarcastic touch by making it a little over the top. Excellent movie, the Grand Central Station scene is pretty great.

There has been a lot of Python stuff on Netflex lately including several reunion films of the performing in their 70's. It's been weird watching Terry Gilliam clowning around on stage as an older man after some of the movies he's made.

It should be noted that Gilliam essentially views these as a trilogy:

Time Bandits is the (fricked up) fantasy of a child

Brazil is the (fricked up) fantasy of an adult

Munchausen is the (fricked up) fantasy of an old man

Mum! Dad! Don't touch it! It's evil!

This and Legend were my two favorite movies as a kid other than Empire Strikes Back. Time Bandits and Legend still hold up well.
