TV example, but...
Eartha Kitt played Catwoman as far back as 1966.
Edit: this actually got carried over into the comics...In Frank Miller’s Year One, Catwoman was black and implied to be lesbian if not bisexual.

characters get re-imagined in different ways all the time
Listen to Nerdrotic some time. He owned a comic store for years and has seen all of the key shitheads come and go in the industry.

Chris evans in blackface would be a great choice

Michael B. Jordon probably learned his lesson in the Fantastic Four abomination as the Human Torch. DC might want to look at how well that movie went.

I can think of atleast 1 example of an actor playing the Human Torch and then ultimately moving onto a more iconic comic book role later on to rousing success
Also are you under the impression that that new fantastic 4 movie bombed because MBJ was playing the human torch?

You talking about that skinny WHITE guy that looks like the comic book Captain America?

Yep...That movie had a lot of problems but MBJ was a huge part of it.

ok
That movie had no chance before it was ever released. It didn’t bomb because of the change they made with that character

You can't possibly know much about the Fantastic Four and it's history to make that comment.

I know enough about the production on that specific fantastic four movie to know that no actor or character was going to be able to turn that movie around. It’s one of the most dysfunctional productions of all time

But that initial concept was fricked from the get-go. It wasn't Fantastic Four, in other than title. I saw some of the trailers and said "nope, that's not for me" and never looked back.
Here's an idea to float to the studios: if you want raw, edgy 'takes' on superheroes, then create your own and name him/her, and leave the originals alone.
Hancock is black Superman (maybe more Black Adam tbh).
Brightburn is bad Superman.
The Boys and Invincible are comic adaptations, but clearly are inspired by Superman and other known products.
There's plenty of room for that angle, and it would even be welcomed.

To be clear, I wasn’t speaking from personal experience, all of that stuff is just public knowledge
I just don’t see how it would make sense for another producer or company to see all that shite show and come away with the thought of “well clearly this happened because we made HT a black guy”
It’s like if someone was talking about the Jets roster last year and was like “man if they could just get a good punter in here, look out”

Gee...I wonder what the underlying narrative will be....

Same here...The trailers told me all I wanted to know and didn't waste my time. I did finally waster a few hours of my life when it went up on streaming and it was worse than my expectations, which were low.

Based on the current climate of identity politics, this seems like a movie setup for 1930s-1940’s Superman to take on white supremacy.
