Also. I must be a degenerate because everyone had me spooked it was going to be “soooooo fricked up”. It was completely fine. Lol. I mean, I don’t have a habit of sucking off bathtub drains or getting off at gravesites, but hardly found it disturbing to watch in any kind of significant way. A bit over the top is all.

Yeah there is a lot weirder stuff out there. I just associate it with the difference from /r/wtf 10 years ago to /r/wtf today. Probably for the best, but Gen Z doesn't share the same penchant for the graphic that we seemed to growing up

It’s not the overall WTF, but more the context of it.

I’ve of course seen way worse overall. But the context and storytelling of this is so expertly formatted it feels much more visceral.

I absolutely despise twist endings like this that say "oh yeah, here's all these things that happened offscreen". The Prestige, for example, is so effective because it didn't really conceal anything
I think that’s it for me too.
I guess you could maybe sense something planned/sketchy was going on once the main characters started dropping like flies, but it didn’t really reveal everything until the very end. Maybe I didn’t pay attention enough, but there were no visible clues throughout the movie. Like nothing showing Oliver slipping something in Felix’s drink.
Like you say… its pretty much “here’s what happened off screen”
Then 5 minutes of a dude prancing around an empty house flopping his dick around until the credits roll.

Eh, I could tell what Oliver was doing as soon as he was trying to find Felix in the maze

I always felt something fricked up was going to happen. I just did t quite want it to go down those lanes.

No Oliver serial killer and you have a potentially much more interesting movie.

Maybe even have him go back to Oxford and be treated like shite by Felix and then Oliver kills Felix for revenge and Oliver ends up in hard prison. Or something. I just didn’t feel like the family dying like that. Felt perverse

It would have been a better ending if Farleigh or the butler had showed up at the end and strangled him.

I thought Duncan was gonna show up at the very end and kill Oliver while he was dancing through the house.

Would have been awesome.

This is the ending I wanted to see.

Duncan was so protective of the family and he seemed to be on to Oliver from the get go.

This movie made me mad because Felix was actually a pretty good guy, and his friendship with Oliver seemed to be genuine. Even Venetia said that.

But there were hints dropped that belied this impression. Specifically casual mentions of prior "visitors" Felix had brought to Saltburn.

True, but Venetia said that Oliver was different from the others. He was, in her words, "more real."

I don't dispute that Oliver was still a charity case for Felix and his family. I just got the impression that Felix genuinely felt sorry for Oliver when he heard of his difficult home life, which of course was just another of his lies.

I was discussing this movie with my wife and she said she got the impression that Felix took Oliver on the surprise trip to see his parents as a sign that he was on to his lies. Is that the impression you got? It's obvious that Felix eventually figured it out, so Oliver killed him, but I wasn't sure if the trip was supposed to be a "see, I'm on to your shite" gesture.

Who cares if there were others.

Oh I spent one summer being treated like a king by some rich dude’s family. Then he got a little distant. Weird but I was a fun summer!

No, I think Felix was genuinely trying to help Oscar make amends in his own arrogant "I'm rich and know better than you" paternalistic way.

He is a quick study, though, and his radar was pinging as soon as they turned into the neighborhood and he saw the parental home.

Well, that's kind of the point of the whole movie, right? It's not just a lark for these "charity cases" that Felix drags out to Saltburn. They are genuinely invested and Felix cultivates that feeling of connection. He's toying with their emotions in a cruel and indifferent manner.

One the 5 worst movies I’ve ever seen, wife agreed. Nothing artistic or intriguing about it. Tried to be over the top for shock value and even that was ineffective.

I liked it? Thought the acting was good (I hate Jacob Elordi’s character on Euphoria, but I thought he was good in this), enjoyed the wry humor, but could have done without the scene of slurping jizz laced bathwater.

It reminded me a little of Euphoria. Especially the party scenes. People that like Euphoria would probably like this movie.

Felix mentions to Oliver that his previous friend that he brought to Saltburn hooked up with his sister and it made things awkward.

What's funny to me is that this is where Felix draws the line. Like they are all naked together taking acid and frolicking through the fields. But if you kiss her then that is just too far and you aren't my friend anymore. Really does feel like Felix and Venetia both are in on some sort of game they play with the summer guests.

I rewatched it this weekend with people and liked it much more. I still wish for a different last 30 minutes but it’s hard to not find it an oddly charismatic movie to watch

That's accurate. I like Euphoria - even though I think it's kind of creepy and I have problems with some of the storylines - but it gets a pass because some of the acting is so good and it's well made. Same applies to this.
