So I signed up for Netflix instant the other day and decide to start from episode 1, season 1. I've gotten through the first five and I have to say it's a lot better than I thought, Duchovney is great. It will take me a long time to get through all of the seasons though

Any can't-miss episodes that would be worth skipping ahead to watch?

Seems like you can just watch Fringe...the same exact thing.

I've done a marathon before too. It does make you want to pull your hair out the 498th time Scully tries to rationalize an alien bursting out of a guys head then taking off in their spaceship.

Have you seen the incest family episode yet? Easily the sickest hour of network tv ever.

Damn, I may have to do the same thing one day. I don't remember any amazing, can't miss episodes. Maybe someone else with a better memory can chime in. There aren't too many episodes where "everything changes" because a lot of the plot points remain ambiguous and consistent (i.e. Scully's "physiology" [trying not to spoil], Mr. Skinner and Mr. X's revelations or redactions). But again I watched this as a kid so I may not remember the pivot episodes as well.

Not exactly. Fringe is full on scifi whereas X-Files dabbled in scifi and was full on conspiracy theory.

I wouldn;t jump ahead too much, some of the episodes deal with the main plot of the show that stretches out over the entire 9 seasons, while some are just what some call "monster episodes". The show was one of my favorites but they should have ended the series after season 7. The last two seasons were very hard to watch as a fan.

Also, make sure after you watch season 5 to watch the first X-Files movie before starting season 6.

One of my favorite shows.

I've watched every episode on Netflix streaming. It's not as awesome when Robert Patrick comes on board, but I still really enjoy the dynamic he adds to it.

Great episode. Fox only aired it once. Never aired it again. Network found it too questionable

I remember the opening scene with the guy with the shovel being backlit by the lightning. The moment I saw that I knew it was going to be a good episode.

The name of the episode is called "Home" (Season 4, Disc 1) and it only aired in syndication because it's a pretty damned disturbing episode. It's the only episode that ever needed a parental warning (rated TV-MA). Enjoy!

Great show!!! I recommend watching in order personally. One of the ones to look forward to, can't remember the season or episode title, but it takes place in Russia and has Alex Krychek in it. The story may have been stretched over several episodes. It had the Russian villagers amputating their own limbs to prevent from being taken for experiments and if they did experiment on you they strapped you down and dripped the "black liquid" stuff in your eye and bad shite happened to you after that. Also the incest episode was good and really creepy. yurintroubl touched on it the other day in the Fringe Season thread.

Did you notice how large Moulders cell phone is! Its the size of a typewriter!

I actually started watching from the beginning too a few weeks ago. I was the biggest fan when the show was airing, but I still haven't decided if I am going to watch past season 7.

Don't skip ahead; the best episodes (imo) are the stand-alone monster of the week ones, but there are jokes from previous seasons buried in there.

The Roach episode always comes to mind as a favorite. The kids in the homemade meth lab.

Most of the Krycheck episodes or the black liquid in the eyes.

Alien Bounty Hunter episodes.

The stand alone episodes where it was a random story with no main character in it like the Negro Baseball League player/alien episode. "The Unnatural" is the title - 6th season and Duchovny's debut as director.

I like how most people don't realize that the episode with the fetish guy where Scully keeps hearing "Don't go any Further" is the song 2pac samples for "Hit em Up."
