Did you read House to House about the 2nd battle of Fallujah? Crazy shite. Really unbelievable what some of these guys did.
I never read it but the November battle for Fallujah was all too real for me. We were up the road about 30 miles from there escorting a General and a LtCol with the 1st Cav and 2 State Department people who "wanted to get close to the action(stupid fricks)". There were also a few media people with us. They just wanted some combat patches or something, but we were their security so we sit there for most of an afternoon on the 2nd day. You could hear the most intense fighting ever and we got a cool show from the air too. Anyway we went back to the Green Zone before night fail and I went to the CSH(hospital) to see if our company or if anyone else I knew from around the IZ had gotten hurt. I knew a bunch of them were in the city fighting and it was the worst thing I've ever seen. There was so much blood on the floor of the CSH the nurses were using squeegies to push the blood out. Grown men were screaming at the top of their lungs and soldiers and marines were just laid out everywhere triage style. I was there to give blood because I have a rare type.
I still have nightmares from this. I hear men screaming in my sleep sometimes. There is noting worse than hearing a grown man screaming knowing he's probably gonna die.
Sorry to mention this...didn't meant to go into such detail but I'm working on a lot of shite right now with myself over the past year or so. It sometimes feels good to talk about it.

That's powerful stuff, man. I promise you nobody's judging you harshly for talking about it. Whatever works so that you can feel better about it.

No Terd, I'd rather have a beer.
anyway if nothing else, I saw enough bloody, shitty shite in Iraq that the initial vision of a zombie will not bother me in the least. Unless eyeballs are hanging out, that shite I can't take. Eyeballs make me gag.

I def want to read that book you mentioned because I'm sure there are a shite ton of stories similar to that.
It's really awesome. David Bellavia is up there with Mike Murphy for me as far as heroes from the past decade of wars.

Z-Day Squad:
If shite hit the fan, the apocolypse happened, and you surived.
Who's the one person you would insist on trying to find? wife, family, friend, old girlfriend?

Wife. Even though she would certainly slow me down and would lead to my eventual death.
Eta: I suppose I could try to surround myself with people of questionable character, and have them redeker'd.

wife then family. but all of the above would definitely get me retarded.

if me, i'd be fricked trying to find the people i would try to save. cuz i don't give a damn about anyone here in houston.
I would at least attempt to find my family, and an ex-girlfriend or two back in south louisiana.
can you imagine messican zombies? talk about gettting some work done since they don't need to sleep or eat all that often.

i was thinking Houston would be absolutely terrible in a z sitch. Huge population center, worst sprawl in the country, Katrina evacs, and Mexicans z's all over

could be..... but if i could capture a few of those messicans who haven't turned and put them to work building a safe refuge or doing the scavaging for us, totally worth it.
all you'd have to do is promise the citizenship once we rebuild the US.
but who am i kidding i can't even get through I10 on a LSU home game weekend without getting stuck in a traffic nightmare....there's no way i could escape during z-apocalypse.

hey man, i went through some similar things, and am constantly working on how it affects me.. let me know if you ever want to talk/email whatever.. talking about it all is what helped me the most.. its no good keeping all of that stuff bottled up.. and it was hard for me, because its not really in my nature to talk about things..
