The original is one of the best horror movies ever made imo.

the stupid ending is what always bothered me

they found it frozen in ice so it cant die from freezing, yet their final solution to stop it is to commit suicide by blowing up the camp so they freeze to death

Macready’s logic was that the fires would keep it from freezing. He specifically says something to that effect.

But he doesn’t quite explain how they plan to keep it warm long enough to prevent it from freezing indefinitely. (The fires would eventually go out.)

Edit: I think Macready’s ultimate goal was just to destroy Blair-Thing (at the time, for sure, the last remaining Thing) using the explosive. But he does suggest that he hopes the fires will prevent it from freezing.

Horror, sci-fi, who-done-it (or who-is-"it").

This movie had it all.

Better CGI or practical effects would have helped the prequel but it never had a chance against the OG. The cast couldn't come close.

It could've been pretty good with the practical effects. The CGI is unforgivably bad. Think, I Am Legend.

Sad thing is that they apparently shot it with all practical effects. Some producer went “nah that looks all retro” and slapped together shitty CGI that’s at times only marginally better than the Scorpion king.

ETA: I see it’s already meationed. What I get for reading threads backwards.

I’m of the opinion that Blair and Fuchs were infected during the autopsy. You can see blood/fluids on their skin above the gloves

The part with the autopsy where Blair is pointing at parts of the Thing with the eraser of his pencil and then he waves it around then puts it right under his mouth. Hard to tell if it touches the imitations when he's using it as a pointer but it definitely touches his chin, like he was thinking. That always bugged me. Makes me think that's how he got it but as another poster pointed out, part of the Thing grows arms in the dogs kennel and then goes up into the ceiling. I always wondered what happened to that 'piece.'

He drank the gasoline..so yes..

I think Carpenter and Russell have stated that we're reading too much into that final exchange between Childs and MacReady, and that nothing was ever intended to reveal anything.

....But you're right. He's drinking from a J&B bottle, which were the ones used to make the Molotov cocktails to blow up the base. And when Childs sips from the bottle, you get the musical sting and MacReady doing a subtle but noticeable chuckle to himself where he knows what's up.
