Agree. It's a show about (American) life and death, and the context just happens to be the mafia.

On a re-watch about the only episode(s) I fast forward through is the dream sequence in the last season.

Overall it is excellent but you will notice the first season has a bit lower production quality than the later ones. Some of the music is campy as hell.

Exactly. It's just a guy going through a mid-life crisis with an ungrateful wife, bratty kids, problems at work...
Tony is an Everyman in his way. He just happens to be a mob boss.

While this thread is still going I'm wondering about something and would be interested in others opinions. During this most recent re-watch I'm doing now I noticed for the first time the story that Ralphie told Jackie Jr about his father and Tony and the poker game.

What I'm wondering is was Ralphie setting Jackie Jr up or baiting him hoping he would do something rash like he did? I know they didn't like each other but I didn't think it was to that level.

No big deal, it's just something I just now caught and was curious about it.

It was one of the only scenes where Ralphie wasn’t a complete a-hole.
