I started watching this for the first time in maybe September or October and it’s up there with Better Call Saul is one of my favorite shows of all time. I’m in the beginning of season three, I just watched the episode with Livias funeral

You can not run a mob like the way the show went after season 1.

Ehh Frank Costello ran a mob while having parties with Huey Long and other senators. Of course that was the heyday, but guys in the old country have been in hiding for 20 plus years running things. Although, the show was a pretty exaggerated version of a boss. But when you really think about it, Phil was right the Jersey family was more of a glorified crew, which historically has been the case where the Luccesse's and Genovese's have had entire factions in New Jersey that operate as their own but answer to the boss in NYC (think Carmine Sr. and Johnny Sac) which is where historically, and in the show, much turmoil has come from.

Edit: The Gambino's too, basically all of the NYC families have had large crews in New Jersey, which has caused strife with the Philly guys, which is why I wished the Sopranos would have gone more into that angle (the car bombing of "WiseChuck" or whatever).

The Wire's new angle of S5 wasn't good, but the main overarching drug/police storyline was just as good as the rest of the show.

I thought it was supposed to be absurd to showcase how America is obsessed with serial killers and stuff like Dexter (there was a Dexter reference at some point) and they don't care about killing in the urban environment. I agree it had some holes, logically speaking, but still great.

This thread made me start a Sopranos rewatch yesterday. I just noticed that Bodie from The Wire is in Ep2 robbing the truck. I hope we will be seeing more of that actor in the future.

Simon has said the real point of S5 was how the newspaper missed all the big stories. The murder of a major drug player (Prop Joe) and Omar buried on pg 17, the mayor that ran on reform is back to cooking the stats to show crime is down to boost his run for governor the schools teaching to the test all missed.

"Man get out the way, you couldn't drive a Fisher-Price." That big bald cop from the Wire that beats up Bubbles has a cameo in the Sopranos, as does Omar. Maybe more that I haven't noticed.

It's honestly a better rewatch than Breaking Bad...Breaking Bad relied too much on the element of surprise and once the cats out of the bag, it's not as engaging.

Which is why Mad Men might be the best rewatch for a serious drama in the modern era. You have stand alone episodes...it doesn't rely on a story arc that needs to keep moving forward in one direction. It's just character art to some degree.

Rewatching it now with my wife and we are loving it. Although the Dr Melfi rape scene cockblocked me. My wife was not in the mood after seeing that.

I was still good to go.

I really wish they would have had Tony or someone confront that guy. I get why they didn't but it would have made for a great end of the episode. Didn't that scumbag work at Popeyes or something? or they apprehended him at a Popeyes?

Yeah the rapist worked at a Subway or some place like that. It would’ve been too cliche to have Tony save the day or avenge her. Really hardcore rape scene.

I also disagree with this. Then I would have to say the NON ending for Deadwood would disqualify the whole show because HBO execs wouldn't blink during contract negotiations.

I still haven't watched "Deadwood the movie". I just can't do it.
