Blair Witch Project scared the frick outta me when I was younger. Paranormal Activity fricked with me too. Something about the found footage aspect of it made it more real for me and thus scarier. They lost their luster a bit in recent years though.

Actually had to walk out of the theater for a few second on that one.

Second Blair Witch too. Great marketing campaign behind it and really the first of its kind in the handheld camera genre.

Fright Night scared the shite out of 4 year old me in 1984.

The most I've been creeped out at the theater was watching the Ring (2003, with Naomi Watts). Ive never experienced anything in the theater as creepy as that.

At home one night at like 3AM I watched Inland Empire in the dark and it creeped me out big time.

Watched the Exorcist when my older sisters were supposed to be babysitting me. They showed it to me and it frickED me up. I enjoy watching it now because it still makes my skin crawl and not many movies can affect me like that.

Another one that really scared me shitless was Silence of the Lambs. My parents had rented it when I was around 8 or so and it had just come out on VHS. We were spending the weekend at our cabin and I knew my parents were going to watch it, so after they thought my sisters and I were asleep, I sneaked out into the loft above the living room and watched through the pickets of the hand rails. Jesus H. Christ, my young mind was NOT ready for that shite.

I was about 12, and saw the double feature Count Yorga, Vampire and the House That Screamed. My twin brother and I kept the light on all night for a few days.

Such an incredibly underrated, yet original, insane, absolutely psychotic, terrifying, and disturbing film.

As for actual Horror movies, I'd say Seeing Candyman at 12 or 13 really freaked me out. That Philip glass score though.

Also, seeing the Blair witch project the night it came out in high school before anyone really knew anything about it was a really intense experience.

As an adult I'd have to say no other movie has stuck with me the way An american Crime has. I've never been able to look at Catherine keener the same way.

And finally, as an adult the subject matter of the flock is really disturbing and it stuck with me for a long time. Most people have never heard of this movie, even though it stars Claire Danes and Richard Gere.

ETA: this list is obviously excluding documentaries, because I've seen documentaries that have kept me awake at night.

Jacob's Ladder. I can't believe they're remaking it. There's one scene that never fails to give me chills, and I've seen it dozens of times.

Probably Halloween. The jump scare type and the supernatural type horrors never completely scared me. But as a little kid having visions of a man in a black jumpsuit and white mask just calmly sitting behind the bushes or slowly walking down my street scared the frick out of me
