Solid 5/10 when it should have been a 10/10 with that budget
Even an 8/10 wouldve been really fun to watch. As it went it was just passable for entertaining

The YouTube reviews this morning aren’t kind AT ALL and are shredding it. That was almost certainly going to happen no matter what though. They butchered the lore and premise so bad with season 1 i don’t see how it is even salvageable

Absolutely.
They made a ton of money bashing season 1 and are looking at this as their next big payday.
Moderate/neutral reviews don't generate clicks/revenue. Everything has to be THE WORST

Or maybe it’s just a bit shite?

Maybe. I'll have to wait until I have time to watch it and see. Can't just trust people who will financially benefit from it being awful though.

How did they destroy the lore? I’m genuinely curious knowing nothing of the lore outside the Hobbit and LOTR trilogy

Just a clickbaity headline they stole from a YouTuber. Nothing Amazon does can destroy Tolkien's lore, because the books will outlast the show by centuries.
It would be like saying The Book of Lamb by Christopher Moore destroyed the Bible's lore.

Ah yes Corinthians with his tried and true “no show should be held to any standard of quality” routine

Galadriel wasn’t a girl boss out slaying trolls. She’s a wise politician modeled off the Virgin Mary and has a husband whose very much alive, she’s not out trying to snag a knock off Aragorn whose just Sauron who in the show literally just wants to grill out and work a forge until she turns him back evil
Elrond isn’t a little girl reading Jane Austin novels with his legs up in a tree. He’s a battle hardened warrior.
There’s a lot more such as when how for whom the rings are forged and in what order, plus Tolkien never mentioned a knock off tribe of sociopath Irish hobbit wannabes

We're talking about "destroying" the lore.
You're an idiot if you think what Amazon does can destroy (put an end to the existence of (something) by damaging or attacking it.) Tolkien's lore.

Too much to name everything but just the characters they co-opted to give this show some appeal have been altered beyond recognition and the creation or Mordor was an absolute disgrace. But do t worry season 2 will have Galadriel thirsting for Sauron so by its end people will consider this a joke and no Tolkien fan will consider it lore.

I did not watch the series...but I watched enough commentary and read enough synopsis to get what they did.
Numenor is a very important part of the backstory of LOTR as it is where Aragorn's ancestors come from. Galadriel, was not super important to the backstory of LOTR but in an attempt to shoehorn in a girlboss, they had to alter the story of Numenor in order to place her there(a place she never once visited in real lore). Numenor was so mighty that they defeated a Sauron that HAD his ring. Its Sauron that corrupted Numenor and caused its destruction when they took him prisoner. This show completely ignored all that...so that they could shoehorn in another separate girlboss.
They completely destroyed any timeline which means they are basically writing fan-fiction at this point. They also injected some weird non-canon lore about Mithril. The timeline of the dwarves is all messed up as well. There was a lot of interjected weird new lore regarding Mordor that was also confusing and while not lore breaking, just unnecessary.

This makes me wonder, how much would it cost a show to hire someone to be a lore checker? Like they review the script and give notes based on lore. It would seem like this would be a no-brainer for a show like this.

Amazon had one. Tom Shippy I believe was him name. They fired him years ago.

They had no intention of ever sticking to the lore. I wonder if Bezos knew he was spending 2 billion dollars for some poorly made project to promote third wave feminism

A 5/10 is by definition not solid. That’s a fail. Your parents would rip your head off if you came back with a report card with a solid 5/10.

It’s simpler to say everything. None of Season 1 happened in the novels save for the forging of the Three, and they were created explicitly out of order in the novels which is a major issue that they can’t retcon.

It's also better if people learn to use their words correctly and rather than saying the show 'destroyed" Tolkien's lore, say what they actually mean, that the show strayed from or ignored Tolkien's lore.

While this isn’t confirmed in the lore, my impression was Hobbits weren’t even around during the Second Age. Hobbits are descended from Men, and I think it was only after Sauron’s defeat and a thousand years of peace did Hobbits rise. I may be wrong about that, but there is no mention of Hobbits before the Third Age.
