When Solozzo initially met with Vito and Sonny, Sonny wanted to make the deal but Vito squashed it.
So they tried to whack Vito hoping after he calmed down Sonny would take over and accept the deal.

The driver wasn’t going to let them on the bus bc he said it was for doctor gemstone. But Jessie said f u and got on the bus anyway.

The easy way for them to find out who did this all is to see who the motorcycle that was left behind at the gas station was registered to.

They need to question that driver of the bus as well. He seemed pretty suspicious and he conveniently had something wrong go with the bus.

He has a shot in the right arm and a chest shot high-right (away from the aorta) both of which are likely survivable if he gets care soon enough. I assume his Caddy has Onstar.
Also one might assume the cycle ninjas were using 9mm machine pistols which might have limited penetration capability after passing through a windshield. Though if the cycle ninjas were professionals they may have been using a round that is either "illegal" or scores high on the FBI barrier protocol. However, I don't see much professionalism in a group that uses "glow in the dark" motorcycles as their method of transportation in a hit.

Some of the funniest lines in this episode related to Jesse's insecurity at his wife's claims of shooting the guy.
And her laying it on thick to the audience and her friends made him even more annoyed.
