Cuba doesn't strike me as OJ during this series, but he nailed that glove fiasco

So it was Darden and not Clark that allowed the glove debauchery? My mom refuses to watch the show due to Marcia Clark and her perceiving that she was responsible for the glove incident. I just thought both of them agreed to it.

If you're the prosecution How do you move forward with that glove fitting without knowing what leather does in ANY situation...much less permit the defendant to try the fricking things on with a latex glove underneath?
Yeah, it was retarded.

Bailey totally played him and Darden fell for it. Shapiro gets some credit for coming up with the idea too.

I've said the same damn thing to her.

I'm shocked they didn't use the most famous line from this trial. Or did I miss it?
Posted on 3/15/16 at 10:21 pm to Salamander_Wilson
It doesn't come until closing arguments.

He said the famous line in the closing argument. It was said at the end of the trial

Was Marcia really a chain smoker

How far do we have left in the trial? Always heard how this was a Marathon of an event. I'll never forget watching the glove moment as a 5 year old

Gotcha. Thanks.
Also, just fact checked it on Vanity Fair. The fax was real, but Johnny actually hot it wrong and asked about a "Columbian necklace" .
I want to know how Shapiro was allowed to try on the gloves? Wasn't that tampering with evidence?

I don't know how that's legal. Any rich guy could get an off site lawyer with a legion of law school students for dirt cheap that could find any bullshite in the argument. That just doesn't seem really fair.

Same here- there's no way that was in any way, shape or form not tampering

I'm so sad there are only 3 episodes left.
Factchecking the episode -
On the "colombian necktie" fax -
Did Robert Shapiro really try on the gloves during a recess?
Did Bailey really make that "balls of a stud field mouse" crack to Darden?
Was Marcia Clark really against the glove demonstration?
So for the poster who still blames Marcia Clark for the glove debacle, tell her to blame Lance Ito. Clark and Darden planned on him trying on the demonstration pair of gloves but Ito made them use the murder gloves.
Factchecking the episode -
On the "colombian necktie" fax -
quote:
True. But even better was what was left out of the scene, either for time constraints or to preserve Cochran’s “ringmaster” image: Dershowitz, who may or may not have been teaching at the time of the fax (it’s not mentioned in his book about the trial), sent word that drug cartels sometimes killed in a manner similar to Nicole Brown Simpson’s murder—a “Colombian necktie.” But Cochran got it hilariously wrong in court. He asked Detective Tom Lange, “Have you ever heard of something called a Colombian necklace?”
Did Robert Shapiro really try on the gloves during a recess?
quote:
True. So did Cochran, according to Lawrence Schiller’s American Tragedy. But the defense just planned “at some time in the future” to have O.J. put on the gloves before the jury.
Did Bailey really make that "balls of a stud field mouse" crack to Darden?
quote:
Yes. As the break was ending and Darden entered the courtroom, Bailey saw his moment. He walked over to the prosecutor and whispered, “You’ve got the balls of a stud field mouse.” Lee Bailey was enjoying himself thoroughly…. “You’re not going to have our client try these gloves on, are you?” Bailey said in a friendly tone. “They probably won’t fit, and you may not wish to know. But if, as I suspect, you lack the balls to find out, we might find out for you.” Darden smiled and said nothing.
Was Marcia Clark really against the glove demonstration?
quote:
False. The prosecution had always planned to have Simpson try on the gloves—but a duplicate pair of the exact ones found at the scene (extra-large Isotoners) that they ordered from the manufacturer, not the bloodied glove from evidence and not with a latex glove underneath. And it was Judge Ito who made the crucial call to have Simpson try on, with latex gloves underneath, the actual blood-soaked (and possibly shrunken) crime-scene glove, not the duplicates the prosecution had intended.
From her book -
“Chris held up valiantly. He had Simpson pick up one of the felt-tip pens on counsel’s table and demonstrate how he could have held a knife. He then had Simpson make stabbing motions. It was a brave recovery. I gave him credit for that. . . . .
“When the demonstration was finally over, Simpson casually snapped the gloves off. And I thought to myself, If they were so hard to get on, why are they so easy to get off, Sparky?
“In the days and weeks that followed, we got literally thousands of faxes, phone calls, and letters with explanations of why the gloves hadn’t fit. We also received a dozen photographs of Simpson wearing Aris Leather Lights.”
So for the poster who still blames Marcia Clark for the glove debacle, tell her to blame Lance Ito. Clark and Darden planned on him trying on the demonstration pair of gloves but Ito made them use the murder gloves.

Nice. I like the fact checking. It's still such a great show even with some of the liberties.

Why does that not surprise me that Ito is behind yet another frick up for the prosecution. Wouldn't shock me if he just thought that OJ trying on an identical make of the glove would make boring television, and then decided to spice it up by making OJ put on the shrunken glove with a latex glove under it. Ito knew how to make good television, I'll give him that, but he's the worst judge in American history.

I can't recall whether there was any testimony presented regarding the shrinkage of the gloves or OJ's arthritic hands. It would seem that a comparison in size of a new pair of gloves with the blood soaked gloves might have been persuasive especially if photographs of OJ in gloves of that brand were available.
