Yea I'm already rewatching.
Colin Farrell is seriously perfect in this. His voice, mannerisms, even his penguin hobble walk is perfect.

Watched it last night. I’ve always wanted a tv series like this the included Batman in lieu of a blockbuster movie. Gotham kinda scratched that itch, but the thing that sucked about it was that Batman was never in it. Just a kid Bruce Wayne.
And like this, Batman will never be seen. Overall, I enjoyed it and will continue to watch it.

Not sure why people want Batman in this so bad. That's what the movies are for.

he's more the audience surrogate

I don't so much want Batman to be in the show, as much as I want the characters, who are ALL criminals, to discuss the fact that there is a man that wears a bulletproof bat costume, drives a jet powered muscle car and fricks up their business running around the city.

Since spoilers are allowed, what's to stop the Falcone family from finding out that the Penguin visited Maroni in prison just recently? I can see what might stop Maroni from flat out saying that the Penguin just offered me a deal to take over a key chunk of the Falcone revenue and gave me my ring back (thus tying him very concretely to Alberto's death). But even if Maroni keeps quiet and claims street cred, surely that prison visit would raise a lot of suspicious eyebrows. And it's not like he can hide that. That visit is recorded on paper and on video surveillance, along with several reliable witnesses to the event (not just some anonymous street kid who was probably set to get shot in face at some point in his life anyway).

I assume Maroni has some deal worked out where all his visits are off the books

We're discussing a reality where a man dressed as a bat can pretty much appear anywhere, anytime, unseen until he wants to be seen. And Gotham is historically the most corrupt city in any superhero film universe.
The only way that Penguin is found out is if the writers want him to be found out.

Does this Penguin have his own World War II-era diesel submarine though?

I mean it's only one episode in right now. I would imagine his name would at least come up. But the city is still a disaster from the bombings and they made it seem in the news reports that that is what Batman is kind of busy doing right now.

I have a new show finally! Really liked this 1st episode. Hope this isn't a spoiler but how is a certain character's arm still functioning? Ouch.

I don't want to ruin the watching experience for anyone, but when I hear this Penguin talk, I hear Colin Quinn doing his De Niro impression.
Not that it's a bad thing.

I had high expectations going in, and it didn't disappoint. One of the better series premieres I can remember.

Good point. There is no way that Maroni or Penguin could keep something like that under wraps. The excuses below your post don't answer your question adequately. Maybe we will find something out in the next episodes. Good start.

Decent but all over the place.
Can't fault it IMO. I think it was good, not great, but I'm not a comic guy.
It was about as good as you could make a Batman story for people who don't like comic themed stuff, IMO.
