Why are you being such a d-bag? Clearly Cooper went to find Brand which means the wormhole is the only way he could get there. Not really complicated.
Yea, I disagree. I'm going by the credited writer until other clarification comes forward. It's just my opinion.

Who hasn't written a word on the project since Spielberg was attached to direct.

And you're entitled to it.

Jonathan Nolan was as involved with his brother's re-write of the script as I was. He was on set but he wasn't the director. The vision was his brother's. Not him. Had Chris used Jonah's exact draft of the script I would say you have a point. But since Chris Nolan almost completely changed the original story with his draft of the screenplay his brother becomes nothing more than a fanboy who happens to be on the set of the film. His opinion on the ending has as much weight as mine.

Can you link something that supports your assertions here about Chris Nolan "completely" changing the original story? I've not read that anywhere.

I've read both interpretations out there. Some are saying it was closed, some opened. I would've said it's completely left up to interpretation, if the credited writer wouldn't have come out and said it was closed. Before that I would've been on the side that it was opened. Until C Nolan comes out and says different, I have to say it's closed.

Old Murph tells him to go to Brand who is currently waiting for them on "our new home." How the hell did she even know that 1) Brand was alive and 2) on a planet they could call home if the wormhole is closed? It's either poor writing or it is implied that the wormhole is still open. Also...it makes no sense for Cooper to go off looking for her if the wormhole is closed because she is in another galaxy, millions of light years away.

Also...the wormhole was near, not next to Saturn. If you remember back toward the beginning of the movie, they couldn't get a visual of the wormhole until they were some distance away from Saturn. Cooper Station was in orbit around Saturn - out of visual range of the wormhole.

Your opinion is that it is "implied" that the Wormhole is open, but, nothing you describe here is a concrete reference to it being open by image in a frame or word of audio.

But, yes, of course the story does make sense if it is open and kept open by the Fifth Dimension Beings for the use of Cooper and the Earthlings.

Anybody have a link to the original screenplay/script?

That seems reasonable; however, given Jonathan's very limited involvement in the final product, many of us don't find his interpretation to be valid.
Nothing wrong with believing it's valid, I just don't think one should say it is a definitive and factual representation of the actual film.

The original script says that they have had no contact with Brand, as J Nolan has stated. The movie does not definitely answer either way.

I linked Jonah's original draft. You have seen the final form of the film. It's obvious that Jonah's version is very different from his brother's.

A note about the end. A lot of people think there is something more to do. Not really and no indication either.
Do note that the wormhole is closed (that’s the tesseract breaking down, and that’s why Cooper is out of the black hole). There is no communication between Edmund and Earthlings. Earthlings are happily settled on various man modified satellites in our own solar system. This was achieved by completing the formula which allowed them to harness the levels of energy they needed for such an endeavour. Edmundians are fine by themselves. Everyone’s happy and getting along. While they are connected, both Plan A and Plan B worked out independent of each other.

This seems reasonable from my (admittedly limited sci-fi experience) viewing. And wow that link gave me a headache.

If the portal is open, why hasn't Murph's colony gone through it?

Because as I've said 8 times already, Brand either just sent the signal or hadn't yet, although she did by the time Cooper saw Murph again. Maybe they were also planning yet another Interstellar mission, but this time to go to all 12 planets and right outside the wormhole near Saturn was the best place to camp out?

OK, it just sounds a lot like speculation. Nothing is definite in the movie. It is in the original script, though. And one of the writers is pretty sure.

And the author of that original script, who had nothing to do with the final draft, probably was interpreting the ending of the film using his unused screenplay which formed the skeletal structure of his older brother's screenplay.

Other than a few characters and a couple of basic plot points here and there, Jonah Nolan's Interstellar and Chris Nolan's Interstellar have very little in common.

And like I've said many times, if you go strictly on what the movie shows, you can only speculate. If you go by the original script, it was closed. If you go by an interview that the writer gave based on the movie, it's closed. That's pretty much the bottom line.

Yea, it's not.

For instance, there could have been God intervention.

I wasn't the only one

Slate.com even said in their review: "For the first time, Nolan’s universe has a God, or something like one."

It's definite he wouldn't find her without the wormhole. It would be like asking for a armless and legless person to find a single grain of sand on some beach somewhere, and get there all on his own. It is an impossibility he finds her without the wormhole.

Again, sounds a lot like speculation. That pretty much proves that nothing is definite.
