We watched Troy last night with my college kid and my wife and I both enjoyed it more than we did in the 90s.

I remember liking it but critics told me it sucked and it kinda stuck with me until I watched it again for the first time.

Honestly, the idea of a Greek tragedy stuck with me a lot because you were made to root for Achilles and Hector and they both met untimely ends. At the time I just felt like it kinda sucked but last night stuck with me for a while.

I saw somewhere that this was at 988 million through Wednesday, which would mean it probably crossed a billion yesterday, and may well be Nolan’s highest grossing movie by the end of the weekend.

I guess what I mean is that it's a mostly unsatisfying ending. Hector dies. Achilles decides he wants the woman not the glory and dies at that baby back bitch Paris' hands


also, I guess I wasn't paying enough attention when i watched this 20 years ago, but the depictions of who died in the movie compared to the poem and who killed who was wholly off kilter way more than The Odyssey.

Hector killed Ajax
Hector killed Menelaus
Agamemnon killed Priam
Breises killed Agamemnon

Paris surviving is unforgivable. I still love the movie though.

Highly recommend the director’s cut for any future viewings. It’s not a Kingdom of Heaven level of improvement, but it’s a much better version than the theatrical.

Troy is not a good movie.

We are just used to such absolute slop and garbage over the past decade that it looks good in comparison.

Inflation or no, I find it absolutely impressive that this film has done so well at the box office considering it's R-rated and based on a Greek epic poem that's almost 3,000 years old.
