It's a well know fact that diversity only means black and gay to these guys. They could give a shite abt anything else. Well, an UGLY woman makes the DEI list for many of them as well.

It's sad actually. I'm a student of history. This is some woke revisionist history. But why though? So you can enjoy loud booms in a theater? There need to be consequences for misrepresentation of historical accounts

At first this was all just fun and games going back and forth, but I’m starting to get genuine concern about the welfare of some of these people.

I'm willing to be that at least 30% of the history you've learned as a

is dramatized, embellished, lies, or made up.

Do we even know for certain that Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin?

I think directors and producers race swapping characters for no reason other than to pat themselves on the back as some half assed attempt at “payback” for characters who were whitewashed in movies 60 years ago (it was stupid then too) is retarded. That being said, I still liked the movie.

To be fair all the people that post here were equally outraged that they didnt cast an old Tibetan man as the ancient one as they were about the Helen casting....

Oh wait, there wasnt a single thread

Incorrect. That was an awful casting and was definitely discussed here.

ETA: The Johnny Depp Tonto reference is stupid. Did anyone even watch that movie?

They don't let you do it exclusively through production hires anymore.

Correct. You can meet it through on screen talent or content, production/creative crew, producer/marketing/distributor personnel, or literally just paying your interns.

2/4 of these gets you qualified. No previous Best Picture winner would have failed to meet these very easy requirements. Stop spreading bullshite.

You can very fukking easily read the Academy rules on the Academy website

It's weird that you think this is in any way defensible.

It isn't.

Damn, you're an emotional little dude, aren't you.

Zero chance Page, Zendaya and Lupita were cast because they were the best for the role, though.

I am in no way pro LGBTQ. In fact it’s incredibly sad that someone would be dealing with such a severe mental issue that they would mutilate their body like Page.

With that said it’s not like Nolan just picked her at random.

She was the second lead in Inception.

He respects her ability to act AND it’s not like she plays this incredible warrior. In fact was obviously felt unnecessary to win the war as intentionally left as a trick.

Zendaya to me looks fairly close to olive skinned as Greek people are

For example

(Jason Mantzoukas a second generation Greek by both mother and father for those who don’t know)

She’s also a solid actress

Lastly Lupita agreed an odd choice by Nolan but Helen is such a minor part in the Odyssey it doesnt take away from the enjoyment of the movie.

Well she’s good enough for both Chris Nolan and Denis Villeneuve so

Also if she is to have a type role it would seem to be the role of quiet aloof and brooding which fits the role of how a mythological goddess should be treated in this movie.

Strange connection here. Who is still talking about Snow White? Are you trying to claim people weren't talking about the Lone Ranger movie when it was relevant and being promoted?

Did Johnny Depp call people racist for not accepting him in the role of Tonto?

How is the connection strange? You said Lone Ranger is irrelevant because no one watched it. Well, it made more money than Snow White and that film had thread after thread dedicated to it. Seems like a perfect connection.

Lone Ranger came out in 2013. It was widely discussed when it was relevant. You're talking about it like people should have still been discussing it last year. It's the dumbest possible position you could take. Also, Johnny Depp is at least partially Native American and, if I recall correctly, was fully adopted into a Tribe while that was filming. And I don't recall anyone ever claiming it was racist that people didn't accept him in that role. I don't know about you, but I saw as much of that film as I saw of Snow White.

No one is talking about either film today, because they're both irrelevant. When is the last time you saw a thread about Snow White?

News flash, nobody will be talking about the Odyssey a year from now either. It isn’t very good.

Right? These folks want to act like the entire history of film means woke nonsense should be accepted. It's the most braindead argument imaginable.

The reviews aren't really selling it to me. I'm sure I'll catch it on streaming at some point.
