liked it, but was a little let down. As you said beautiful film, average story, mixed bag on the acting. I think the movie was missing one good battle scene at the start featuring Amleth's dad to set the tone. I'm not one that NEEDS non-stop action and I didn't expect that in this film, but I think this is a film that would've benefited from it. Movie just zigged every time I wanted it to zag. 3/5 stars
This is me. I was expecting a bit more horror elements. Him terrorizing his uncle’s village was the highlight. the first 30 minutes almost had me bailing (there were 2 couples who left and never came back.)
It finally settled a bit and I can say I enjoyed it, but some of that was out there and weird and I can handle weird.
Also it’s wild to me that Alexander Skarsgaard was banging Nicole Kidman in Big Little Lies and she was his mom (that wanted to bang him) in this.
Upon further thinking on it, it’s well done, but there were just a lot of misses. Sometimes I think about incredibly well done movies where the director nails their vision ( Mad Max, Craxy Stupid Love, Interstellar) but we’re left with an amazingly flawed movie that missed the mark.
This is a movie where I feel like the execution was great but the director missed his intended vision.

I watched it tonight and thought it was fantastic. Brutal, intense, beautiful.

It was definitely a cool trip.
SPOILERS:
Some questions like why he made that one stand that ended with him getting captured and beaten. And then when he got attacked by the child stabbing him up. And then the sword of awesomeness being not so awesome. The anti-ending of him dying.

Saw it in the theater over the weekend. It was over-hyped by the guys. My wife was all into seeing this, but even as a Skarsgård fan, she was let down.
I could see guys getting into the disemboweling porn, but the beginning was drawn out and a bit silly. The "twist" was pretty obvious. Okay movie at best.

Visually beautiful.
Score was great.
Solid acting performances.
Brutal movie.
But, if you're looking for "action" and exposition/dialogue, it's not for you.

wasn't what I expected. Not the movie's fault, but I thought i'd like it more.

Hel yeah, just caught this one and really enjoyed it.
I think knowing the type of production it is ahead of time sets up expectations, and what it's going to be (including what it's not).
I can see how it wouldn't appeal to everyone, especially if you're not a fan of this style.
But I rate it a solid four Björks out of five.
