It was actually his grandmother that was a slave, his mother was a white French woman.

I'm not sure why Hollywood does this. David Oyelowo is a fine actor, but there are plenty of others that should be cast in this role.
It's like they don't read history, and/or have ulterior motives.
There are some great characters to use that actually are black, there's just no point to this.
But it's like Marvel, lots of great Black superheroes -buuuttttt let's recast Wonder Man. Screw actually finishing Blade.
