WTF? Gregory Peck, George C. Scott, Cagney, Bogart, Barrymore, Laurence Olivier, Edward G. Robinson, Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart

Great topic choice, BTW, nothing to get everyone's opinion going like an overrated, underrated thread.

The Insiders? Is that worth watching? Have not seen it.

I'd say so. It's based on a true story of a tobacco exec who appeared on 60 minutes to talk about the practices of the tobacco companies against his confidentiality agreement. A fair amount of legalize and a manipulative tug of war between the company the title character worked for and the media. But to me it was mainly a cautionary tale in what can happen when your private life becomes public.

him playing spicoli was actually a great acting job by a very young actor.

Penn is a douche but a spectacular actor

Im shocked by some of the names mentioned
Tom Hanks--from Big to Saving Private Ryan
Johnny Depp--Wow one of the most versatile actors
Di Caprio--Gangs of NY alone will disqualify him

Richard Gere I'll get on board with this one. I never understood any hype surrounding this guy.

I thought he was great in American Gigolo, Breathless, Officer & Gentleman, also Pretty Woman. When his youth, enthusiasm, sex appeal, and spontaneity, were all in full force. But, he never really developed mature chops as he aged..still playing the same 'guy' at much later age with Ryder, Roberts again, etc..

And you guys slamming Penn..Spicoli-Mick O'Brien-Kleinfeld became Falcon/Snowman, Close Range, Harvey Milk, I Am Sam,etc..slightly over-rated maybe..grossly?..No!

Then again, I think the Academy screwed Cary Grant..Bringing Up Baby, Philly Story, His Girl Friday..lifetime o-fer? Aw hell no!

Jack Nicholson
Al Pacino

They don't even act AT ALL in their movies. They just yell and act obnoxious. Basically, they are the Will Ferrells of their generation who everyone mistakenly took seriously early in their careers.

You are a complete idiot, go sterilize yourself now. Have you ever seen a movie made before 1980? Chinatown? Godfather I & II? Tell me that all Nicholson and Pacino did is yell and act obnoxious in those with a straight face

What are you "ROFLing" about, you didnt make a point and nothing I said went anywhere towards establishing an argument of yours. This clown has seen Scent of a Woman, Batman, and the Shining and now thinks he's qualified to judge the entire volume of their work

Cast Away is the ONLY performance worth noting by Hanks in the last 15 years. He's been average to mediocre for a long time and his peak wasn't that great. He was far better and more interesting to watch as an actor in his early comedy years than when he started doing all these serious dramas.

Forest Gump? Green Mile?

The fact you are this up in arms and emotional over two average "actors" proves the very point of this thread. Further, you implicitly conceded they've cashed in the last 30+ years but fail to see how they are currently overrated?

Where did I "implicitly concede" that? And stop laughing at yourself, nothing you've said is a. sensible b. clever c. funny

Awesome. Another thread where I can say Gary Oldman is overrated.

Okay. i haven't read a single thing past this post. Please explain to me how gary Oldman is an overrated actor. He has been an extremely diverse actor that has performed many roles extremely well. I am not trying to be and arse, but please present me with an argument on how Gary Oldman is an overrated actor, because I cannot honestly comprehend one.
