All the Karate Kid movies are unbelievable, but this is especially true with Karate Kid 3.
Like all the previous Karate Kid movies, Daniel seems to be weak and ineffective in situations outside the tournament, but somehow finds a way to get needed points to win the match.
In Karate 3, Mike Barnes kicks Daniel around regularly before the tournament and LaRusso seems powerless and weak to even defend himself, much less dominate the situation.
Then in the tournament finals, he is getting dominated again while Barnes plays with him, purposely taking foul points to even the score and prolong the match and the pain.
At one point, Daniel literally turns his back and runs out of the ring.
But after a motivational speech by Miyagi, ( focus) Daniel actually wins his first real point and the tournament.
The crowd goes wild and we are suppose to forget that Daniel got his butt kicked the entire bout, and somehow, he’s the best fighter in the entire valley?!
Couldn’t they have made Daniel even somewhat competent outside the tournament and make it a little more believable?

He cheated to win in Karate Kid 1 so him being a punk in Karate Kid 3 tracks.

Johnny Lawrence is the real Karate Kid. Daniel was and is a punk.

Karate Kid 3 was money grab following the 80’s/90’s rule that big IP movies finish their trilogies
The problem with part 3 is part 2 - The ending of part 2 solidified Daniel as a legit arse kicker who faced death in the eye
So how do you come back from that to fight in a normal tournament. Hint…you don’t

My thread from ten years ago.
Daniel is the least likeable protagonist ever. And he is responsible for almost every bad thing that happens to him in the KK movies.

Damn I was hoping to beat you in this thread

You're trying to make sense in a world where All Valley Karate championships is a huge fricking deal.

Still holds true to today for that dude.
The worst part about KK3 was the bullshite rule that the previous champion advanced directly to the finals. What kind of shite is that?

WTF happened to Sophandros and Baloo?

I wish we adopted that rule in college football

Chozen would have ended Daniel in under a minute.

Your sample size must be very small.

My favorite part of the whole thread, and it still makes me laugh, is calling Mr. Miyagi Yags.

The real problem is they didn't feel like doing another montage so they gave him a free pass to the finals even though one year prior we watched defending champ Johnny Lawrence fight the whole tournament.

The All Valley has a committee that changes rules every year on a whim
It's a big deal apparently

I feel like we are having this conversation 30 years too late.

Myagi should have left that bike in the dumpster. Would have saved him many years of trouble.

unbelievable
I would argue that it was the fact that - with a phone call - Kreese was able to recruit multiple people to participate in conspiracy to commit murder of 2 children (one a female).
