The Joker

Looks very interesting. I'm sure Phoenix is going to kill the role.

I'm not sure about the concept of a movie centered around a bad guy like the Joker without a good guy like Batman to balance things out.

This movie looks like it's going to attempt to give me more insight and back story on the Joker than I really want.

I'll watch it but I think I'll have to treat it as more of an "Elseworlds" type of story.

I'm sure it will be well done and Phoenix will kill it, but overall this looks like #NotMyJoker.

It’s okay bud. You actually were first to post the trailer.

Yea. I’m not sure I want to see “society” turn the joker bad like that trailer hinted at.

I'm in. Much more aesthetically pleasing than Leto's iteration.

A few of the scenes in this trailer actually made me feel sympathetic for the character. I think Phoenix is going to be incredible.

This is the problem I have with it. What makes him such a creepy and intriguing character is that we don't know who he is. Sure there was an Elseworlds story that gave him a history (Killing Joke.... great book but I hated this part of it), but that was not part of the canon (elements of it, however, have been incorporated into canon over the years).

I actually would be more ok with this if he is pure evil and becomes crazy for the sheer sake of being evil and crazy. Unfortunately I get the impression this is going to be another tragic tale in which a good man was poorly treated up to his breaking point. Why can't we just have evil for the sake of evil? This is the Halloween 2 Michael Meyers effect all over again

This. I'll go see it, as I am a Batman fan. However, I'm failing to see the point of the movie. Does it just show how the Joker became who he is?

exactly. Some people just want to watch the world burn. That’s what makes the joker the joker. There is no rhyme or reason. He is chaos incarnate.

That's exactly what made the Joker the Joker in Alan Moore's The Killing Joke. This film is clearly drawing inspiration from that arc.

I’m honestly just burnt out on the Joker at this point. Once every 20 years or so is good but ever since Ledger redefined the character it’s like filmmakers are scrambling to either recapture or reinvent the character without much consideration for the story he plays in.

The trailer looked and played really nice but I have no idea and no real interest in what the plot of the movie is supposed to be.

Arkham State Hospital

Odds that was a young Bruce Wayne whose face he was pushing a smile on?

Also, it seems like they're setting it up for him to just be a sad, disturbed guy who eventually gets pushed into violence by the nature of Gotham.

Hopefully the film shows that he is clearly evil and does twisted things despite an otherwise decent life, but the fear/brainwashing to love by his mother keeps him from going over the edge.

Then eventually society breaks his spirit and he just completely becomes his true self.

Agree Phoenix will likely kill it as the Joker but I agree I don’t like the angle. I don’t like that he’s just a quiet guy who finally breaks after a lifetime of bullying. I prefer that he’s always been crazy and finally went full psycho.

Still want to see though! Maybe we get a Batman cameo at the end or post credit.
