I just finished episode 6 and this show is incredible, one of the best shows ever developed for Netflix IMO.

I dont want the ride to end.

The horror is superbly built up, and the scares are never cheap. They are earned. My wife hates horror movies and such, but she can't stop watching this show. It's that fricking good.

this.

Its hard to find a great character driven show with also great horror moments built in and this has both.

This show is incredible.

We finished Ep8 last night.

SPOILER ALERT (MINOR):

I won't go into details, but this had the first cheap scare of the series. I applaud them for not giving into this temptation more often. While that one moment took away from everything they had established, it really is a rain drop in an ocean.

We will be finishing this tonight. I don't binge like this often. Really only Bosch, DareDevil and Punisher have sucked me in this much with the full season release options.

I'm sure most here are aware, but in case there's a few that aren't, you really need to purchase The Haunting (1963) after you watch this series.

The base characters and primary setting is storied off of that movie.

Btw, I believe it's the best Horror movie ever made.

great movie.

Read the book also. It's been many years since I have read it, but I plan to do a reread after I finish this. To my memory the show has taken the idea of the book and created its own story, but it does seem like there are some particular, individual story points that are familiar. I don't remember the book very much due to the length of time since reading it.

We just finished it.

Amazing show, and probably the best I've seen from Netflix.

I am 5 episodes in. I am absolutely blown away by how good this show is. It almost resembles an exquisite southern gothic novel, the way the past is so intertwined and pivotal to the present. If Faulkner himself could produce a show, it would look something like this. The horror to me almost is secondary. The show's masterpiece is its use of the past.

This is the first show in a long long time that reached the sublime.

I'm typically not a big gothic horror fan, but this was easily one of the best series I've seen in a long while. I'd put it in with Stranger Things, GOT and Man in the High Castle in terms of production quality and bingeability. I was mad at the end of the night when I had to go to bed due to early meetings for work, on the nights where we weren't able to do any more episodes.

Yea, definitely a jump, but they had kind of built to that one pretty well. The more and more those two fought leading up to that, the more and more stuff was happening.

I was not expecting it there though. It definitely got me.

I don't hate the scene. It's a cheap scare that's counter to the style of horror this series is, and it's the lone hiccup. I actually understand the point of the scene after finishing the season, but my criticism is their giving in to the temptation of cheap scare rather than the subtle, earned ones.

The final episode is incredible. What a way to bring all of it home. I hope this is a miniseries, because doing future seasons would undermine what they have established here. This works best as a stand alone to me.

The final episode really is great. It is amazing how good of a job they do humanizing what is going on in the show to every day issues the audience may be having. It is done subtly but very well. I agree I hope it is a miniseries. Hasn't been renewed for season 2 I don't think yet. I just don't know what else they could do for this particular story.

I pretty openly cried at the end of episode 7. I can’t really express how well they nailed that part at the end.

I honestly had to look it up on IMDB to see if they were the same character of if Hutton was like a step-father or something.

Wife and I watched episodes 1-4 last night and had stop and google the cast/character list during the first episode for confusing older Shirley with Olivia. We thought there were only 2 daughters but then realized there were 3.
